Skme good from the Wookies Forced Food program

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. – First Lady Michelle Obama’s healthy school lunch menu is finally getting some love from a group of young eaters.

Some 3,000 pigs at My Blue Heaven Farm in Rhode Island have been dining on students’ lunch leftovers from two nearby school systems, according to WoonsocketCall.com.

The pigs are enjoying “half-eaten tuna sandwiches and other food scraps students discard during their lunch periods” as part of a new recycling program established by the town of Cumberland, the news site reports.

The recycling program has been so successful that officials are planning to expand it in the fall.

The school food that’s being “repurposed” as pig feed is described as “nutritious,” and it certainly is.

So, I am still waiting for an answer.

Why were kids healthier from the 90's and earlier even though they were eating "heavier" meals at school?

They had to run on treadmills after school to generate electricity for the house.

We need to have the kids ride exercise bikes while in class to power the school.

Two birds with one stone kind of thing.

I don't think anyone is claiming that school meals are the cause of nor the cure for overweight kids, and there's surely lots of factors as to why more and more kids and adults are overweight. But why should schools contribute to the problem? Just because something is not the MAIN problem, why should it be allowed to be a contributing factor?

I assume that, as this is a voluntary program, remitting the taxes to pay for it is voluntary as well.

So there's folks here, who don't even know that Michelle's programs are not to take on childhood obesity? Then what the heck is her "Let's Move" program a public-private partnership, about?

That sets "national" goals to end childhood obesity in a generation.

Overall, people are uneducated as to what is good for them and what is bad.

It reminds me of a friend of my best friend (I know, I know). He was a nutritionist for the Nebraska football team and came up with a color coded system for meals that was extremely simple for the players to grasp.

If they were overweight/underweight/whatever, they could only eat meals that were labeled a certain color. The system was evidently used in quite a few restaurants in Lincoln.

Chip Kelly brought him to Oregon, and the same system worked wonders there. He immediately hired him to work at Philly when Kelly got hired there.

Anyway, the system is simple and brilliant. Maybe the school lunch program can be based on something like my friend's friend came up with.

who was "elected" in 2000? oh yeah, george w bush. he was a moron. also he spent a lot of money on a fake war and in supporting other countries, while spreading propaganda to the united states citizens, making them afraid of everything. but little was mentioned of healthy eating. little ****s were given about anything except war mongering.

so we had a recession, and during a recession we saw people being able to afford to eat less food. less money = cheaper food. so those that alread were eating shit food continued while some started eating more shit food. little money was spent on actual research into the FDA and making sure certain ingredients weren't dangerous, because again: no ****s were given.

Yet Obama has turned out to be the biggest liar of all presidents.
Obama has also kept us in the recession, despite recovery propaganda.

First of all, are the meals healthier today at school just because there's less of it? We've also seen astronomical rises in sugar, corn syrup, unhealthy meat, salt, etc… And just because they're regulating school lunches doesn't mean they're regulating out of pocket snacks or vending machines. I would also bet that lots of schools with low budgets are cutting a lot of corners leading to very unhealthy food.

But again, it comes down to education. The parents of today's generation didn't have home ec. So they can't balance a checkbook let alone cook a meal, and with work being busier than ever, they often cut corners on meals. And most of these people (who are my age too) are so uneducated about good nutrition. Because we got taught a shitty food pyramid but also because the 90's and 2000's brought to us a hell of a lot more choice that has made finding truly healthy food in stores a treasure hunt.

Again, I don't want kids to be forced to eat good food. I do want them to be educated about why good food is good for you and get used to the taste of it. Education backed by a lunch program that practices what they teach is something else entirely. I think it is going to be a very uphill battle to convince parents to change their ways. Which is why it starts with the kids. Getting kids to VOLUNTARILY eat good lunches would have a huge impact.
