So what do you guys think of Brownback?

I guess 100 Republican officials endorsed the Democratic gubernatorial nominee for Kansas.

Brownback decided to significantly cut income taxes for the rich, and - surprise! - that didn't result in an increase of tax revenues. Kansas' credit rating has been cut and it's used up a large percentage of it's rainy day fund.

Thoughts? Love him? Sick of him yet?

His tax plan was not just the standard "republicans like to cut taxes" plan. It was a reckless, experimental plan where he actually said revenues ere going to go up. He literally wheeled in Arthur Laffer to address the legislature and promise this.

As Buehler points out though, most people don't make decisions to move to Kansas based on reductions in state income taxation. The experiment was doomed from the start and he managed to convert a hundreds of millions surplus into a hundreds of millions deficit in just a couple of years. And that's after pulling every shell game with revenues he could find.
There is going to be a new shell game this year as well. I do audits for small school districts and there is a new procedure this year as far as property taxes go. In the past, the property tax portion of the school districts funding came directly to the schools from the counties in basically quarterly payment throughout the year. In the new school year, 20 mills (which is a good chunk for most schools) will be sent first to the state of Kansas then on to the district. The only purpose that is seems to really have is to show additional cash in the State coffers for a period of time and to show that the state is distributing more money to the schools (when it is actually just acting as a passthrough).

Brownback has been using the people of Kansas as pawns in his game to run for president again. He wants to be able say, "look at what I did as governor". It has nothing to do with doing a good job for Kansans, its a resume builder. Unfortunately for him, he and his policies are abject failures. These issues will really be embarrassing for him in his next presidential debate.

I do think the renaming of SRS was useless. The political crony Sidelicki who brownback brought in with all these great ideas didnt even last a year i think.

For anyone following, Brownback looked weak in his primary his opponent, a lawrence businesswoman Jennifer Winn who had no money, didn't campaign much, amd announced her primary issue was marijuana legalization. She took 37%. Historically in kansas, if the incumbent's challenger takes more than 25%, it is usually a bad sign for the sitting governor in the general election.

Holy balls. I had no idea who she was. That doesn't bode well for Brownback.

Brownback is probably done.

In other news, I didn't know Todd Tiahrt was running again. He got curb stomped.

Anyone who wasn't paying close attention probably didn't. The ads here in Wichita were either Pro Pompeo or Con Pompeo. Not one time did I actually hear Tiahart's name in an ad. It was quite strange.

Same here. I'm not sure Pompeo is in my district, but they spent a lot of money to slander him, and he spent a lot of money to get Huckabee to endorse him (I imagine).

The other one was Russ Jennings. I don't know who his opponent is, but it's either anti-Jennings, or Jennings backtracking.

You missed the one with Tihart throwing pompeo's voting record into an old school galvanized trash can saying "we know what to do with trash in KS!"? Classic

You weren't listening apparently.

I don't watch TV, but Tiahart had adds all over the radio.

Tiahart's ads were mostly him lying about pompeo and his own voting record. One of those politicians who counts on people not fact checking the bullshit he says.

He's always been like that, which is why his ass got canned.
