WAR on...WHITE PEOPLE

Rep. Brooks charges war on whites by Democrats

(AP) — A Republican congressman from Alabama says Democrats are engaged in a "war on whites."

Congressman Mo Brooks made his comment on conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham's program on Monday. He said the Democratic Party claims white people hate everyone else and that it's part of President Barack Obama's strategy of dividing people on the basis of race, sex and class.

The remarks came in a discussion of immigration legislation passed last week by the House that could result in increased deportations.

Brooks was responding to analysis saying that the Republican Party risks losing any appeal to Latino voters and will not be able to be successful in a national race if it appeals only to white voters.

"This is a part of the war on whites that's being launched by the Democratic Party. And the way in which they are launching this war is by claiming that whites hate everybody else," said Brooks. "It's a part of the strategy that Barack Obama implemented in 2008, continued it in 2012, where he divides us all on race, on sex, creed, envy, class warfare — all those kinds of things."

Brooks defended his comments in a phone interview Tuesday with The Associated Press and disputed the suggestion they were incendiary. He said that Democrats were the ones being incendiary, pointing to comments including an assertion by House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi this year that the GOP's failure to act on comprehensive immigration legislation had something to do with race.

"Race should not be an issue in public policy debates, we should be colorblind, we should be the melting pot," Brooks told the AP. "But so long as the Democrats have a political campaign strategy to divide Americans based on skin pigmentation then they are the ones who are fanning the fires and doing a disservice to our country, not those who try to hold the Democrats accountable for what is a very counterproductive and sinister campaign tactic."

To a request for comment, the spokeswoman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Emily Bittner, wrote in an email: "Wow. Congressman Brooks is living in his own world of paranoia, but sadly, this is precisely the kind of divisive rhetoric that has come to define House Republicans.

I work with a ton of second, third and longer generation hispanics. They all speak perfect English and are imo every bit an embodiment of the American dream as my great grandparents were when they took a boat from Italy and Scotland to Port Jefferson, Long Island. From my observations in LA - Hispanics tend to have very tight family units, they stay very close with their parents, they have elaborate extended family get togethers at the beach or in the park. How are those things "un-American" in any way?

For the past few years I have volunteered through my work at at an elementary school in East LA on Halloween. Even in Kindergarten every one of those kids that I've seen speak good English. At mid day the kids all have a parade in their costumes. Almost every single kid had at least one parent show up, and a ton of them had both parents show up. How is that "un-American" in any way?

I know you guys love to squeal like stuck pigs any time someone mentions racism. But when you eagerly gobble up any propaganda, without any evidence whatsoever, which supports your seemingly pre-conceived ideas that Hispanic immigrants are somehow "different" than your ancestors or other previous waves of immigrants - what kind of conclusion should we draw?

Americans (like this "good" Mexican you're lauding) drink Corona, numbnuts.

You seem to be a favorite of the obtuse game. Let me spell it out for your babe in the woods persona:

The sign shows that there is a segment of society which looks down on whatever wave of immigrants is currently at the bottom of the social ladder. In the past one of those groups was the Irish. We now look back and think of that as being pretty silly, but at the time it was taken very seriously by short-sighted and easily emotionally manipulated bigots. Currently it's Hispanics. And you are filling the role of the closed-minded bigot.

You're so awesome.

We all have our own life's experiences, don't we? Whether it offends your tender sensitivities or not, the experience with the Hispanic parents is a true one; believe it or not; don't care, but it's funny how your experiences we should all heed as true, but you so quickly want to call someone else a liar, because it doesn't jive with what you want to believe or what you've seen...I guess you think you've seen it all?

That being said, my wife's first hand experience with Hispanic parents are lopsidedly positive; typically they are INDEED more involved and appreciative of the educational opportunity...discipline with their children is also rarely an issue...which pains me to say because I want to hate them so badly...

Who in this thread is for illegal immigration?

Many posters seem to be against even legal Hispanic immigration - because of some weird vague perception that Hispanics are coming here under different pretenses than their ancestors.

If Hispanics were voting straight GOP tickets constantly, I'm guessing white conservatives would be a wee bit more in favor of them coming. And something tells me the Democrats wouldn't be all that thrilled.
