There's probably a thread in DC, and this one will probably end up there too.

Mods can merge, I apologize.

I'm tuned in on CNN and these cops are shooting rubber bullets.

I turned on the tv and I thought there was some sort of zombie apocalypse shit going down until I realized it was just Al Sharpton. When an old Gypsy man offers you a pie - don't eat it , Al.

I'll admit I'm very torn on the whole thing. I generally am not a cop hater, and I believe it's entirely possible (and perhaps even likely) that the cop was defending himself. It's hard to see how he'd be justified in firing off 6 shots in self-defense, but we need more details to really know.

At the same time, I think I'd be livid if I were a poor black person living in that town that they've not released the name of the cop. I personally understand the reason for that too, but it makes seem like they're hiding something.

But is looting justified? Obviously not.

But is quelling a protest of unarmed people in full riot gear, shooting rubber bullets, flash bangs, and tear gas the way we need to be handling unruly people in this country? I have trouble agreeing with that either.

Just a shitty situation all around.

I'm assuming they are not releasing the officers name yet because they are fearful someone might track him down and attempt something stupid.

Let things cool off before they release his name.

The tear gas, wooden & rubber bullets, & sound cannons have been deployed not on "unruly people" but peacefully protesting people. Media members have been fired upon because they wouldn't stop filming. The looting was over on Sunday, DaFace. Since then it has been fascist brutality against people chanting and singing, peacefully.
