Every year since I've been able to follow Kansas City games by Direct TV or in Sports bars, (in the Southwest I used to have to follow them on the score tracker and wait until "Prime Time" to see the highlights..those days were brutal!) I've had a pre-game ritual. I wake up early and play the funkiest music I own...James Brown, Parliment/Fukadelic, Sly and the Family Stone and I play it loud! ESPN is on the tube, muted until they discuss the KC match up. I wear my Joe Delaney or Derrick Thomas jersey and my tan KC hat. Next, I pour a huge Screwdriver (Absolut Vodka and Minute Maid OJ preferred) and make mushroom and cheese omelettes and homestyle potatos for the crew that shows up. By now the music, food and Screwdriver have got me pretty geeked up. Before kick off I hang my framed 1970 KC/Minn. Superbowl pennant above the T.V.! This ritual can bring a tear to the eye so beware. Next, I make another screwdriver flop on the coach, mute the stereo and get ready for the KICK OFF!

At Halftime, I throw Cheddar Brauts on the grill and switch to Bud Light...

What's your game day ritual?

Beer-run, at least 2 cases...budlight... chips, snacks till everyone shows up. Order pizza, etc. hang up DT plaque, and chiefs semi-truck on top of TV. Chiefs Paraphanella(sp) scattered through living room.
Turn on 101the fox, kill tv sound. Perch on the back of the couch and growl till kickoff Grrrr...

I usually put my Chiefs flag out on Sunday (or Monday or Saturday) morning. Then like clock work I go TO work. Literally. I am a poor college student so I can't afford not to work for the extra dollar an hour on Sundays. I always seem to work when the Chiefs play too whether its 1:00 EST or 4:00. I usually play phone tag with my dad for updates. I spent a lot of time on the phone on January 2nd this year. Other than that I wear my Chiefs tie to work. When I'm not working I sit back and watch the Steelers game while I listen to 101FOX on the internet.

I have not yet been blessed with direct TV.

I wear my Gonzalez jersey. Fix up some Beam & Coke and have my wife get the snacks ready. Then, I send her to the other room and it is game time. If friends are over, the "rule" is in effect........no side discussions during the game, unless they are Chiefs or football related.

Take a shower and put on my Chiefs togs, including the red bolt earring.

Spend some quality time with Mrs. Gaz. Read the paper, make blueberry muffins, play with the cats.

Turn on the TV in time to see the game preview. Retire to kitchen to prepare munchies.

Put KC Chief [my blood-red Betta] on top of the 61” big screen.

Flop on the couch moments before kickoff, surrounded by sustenance.

Alternate mood as directed by Chiefs’ performance.

I wake up...hopefully...

I have so much nervous energy I can't eat or else I get sick...so I clean the house...(I figure if they lose at least I'll wallow in clean misery)

I put on my Chiefs apparel...usually a player jersey...if they win I wear it until they lose...

I get the sports page but I don't read it...I won't read or listen to anything about the Chiefs before the game...if I see something on one of the pre-game shows about the Chiefs, I turn the channel...

I won't listen to the announcers until after the opening kickoff...

I smoke a cigarette the first time the Chiefs are on Offense and the first time they are on Defense...if they do better on offense, I only smoke when they are on offense...if D, then I only smoke when they are on D...

If they win...I read the paper to see if the jerk off media was right or wrong and I watch every highlight show there is...I also take a nice hot bath...

If they lose...I stay dirty and I do not watch or read anything about the Chiefs until Wednesday at the earliest...

So you see, I am perfectly normal....

Gaz, that did sound pretty bad didn't it?...no I just go Sunday without a bath or shower...I won't make my co-workers suffer because the Chiefs lose...now if one of them makes a negative comment about the Chiefs...then I can't be held responsible if I go postal... Up early (about 6:00 a.m.) start the coffee and make the drive to the Sunday Star machine about a mile away (Branson). Come back sit on my deck read and drink java till early church at 8:00. Back at 10:00. Mix Bloody Mary's (Spicy V-8, vodka(usually something cheap)celery salt, tabasco, worchestershire, hand-ground pepper, garlic powder, and a touch of liquid smoke). Pull the Johnsonville Brats out of the freezer and surf FSN, ESPN, CNN, CBS, FOX etc. for everyones preview of the Chiefs game. Liberal cursing and screaming at those who are picking against KC. Game time, shut down volume and tune in Mitch and the boys. Start briquettes between 3rd and 4th quarters. Feast after the game and surf NFL ticket for late games.
