Bill Simmons @BillSimmons I hope LeBron goes back to Cleveland, but that reported 3-teamer happened today only b/c Boston was about to lose that big trade exception.

Bill Simmons @BillSimmons Cleveland cleared those salaries b/c it didn't cost them much, it cleared cap and kept them alive for LeBron if that ever heats up.

Bill Simmons @BillSimmons Brooklyn needed to replace Livingston (with Jack). And Boston wanted another big expiring deal because they're still chasing Kevin Love.

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA LeBron James and agent meeting w/. Heat will include Pat Riley and assistant GM Andy Ellsburg, the salary cap expert, source tells Yahoo.

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA Miami isn't treating today like some kind of Armageddon w/ James, just normal planning meeting to show financial way team's back together.

Pitt Gorilla 07-09-2014 01:27 PM

James would sell a TON of jerseys and merch if he returned to Cleveland. Win a title in that state and he could be the governor.

This is stupid as ****. So the Nets and Boston did the deal because they could benefit from it? WHOA! SHOCKING!

Send Wiggins and keep Waiters... that does not seem smart at all.

Waiters is worth way more to Minnesota than to Cleveland, where he can't co-exist with Kyrie.

Why would Minnesota care if players coexist in Cleveland or not? They want the best player possible, and Wiggins is much better than Waiters.

maybe he is maybe he isn't. We don't know yet. Waiters averages 16 points a game already in the NBA and would be even better as the #1 option.

And it's not a matter of Minnesota caring whether or not he coexists in Cleveland. It's about Cleveland caring.

That was once true. But after we fired our GM the new one sat both down together and they finished the season on great terms with each other.

I really don't want to lose Wiggins though, I feel like we can swing a trade without him. I feel like there has to be more to it then just Love for Wiggins straight up though.. Love is walking from Minnesota reguardless after this season.

That's all fine and dandy, but the power position is fluid right now. Minnesota doesn't want to lose Love for nothing, but there's no way they can demand Wiggins before Lebron signs. And there's no way you give up Wiggins before Lebron signs.

Minnesota holds the cards here; they don't have to do anything. I'm betting the price starts as wiggins and waiters and goes from there.

That's the same GM that A) didn't draft waiters, B) drafted Wiggins, C) said Wiggins is a SG.

I'm simply saying the Cavs need to stick to their guns and say they won't give up Wiggins in the trade for Love. They can stand pat, sign Lebron, and get Kevin Love next offseason for free.

How badly does Minnesota want to get something in return for their all-star player?

The fact is, this is one of the more interesting negotiations you could fathom. There are so many things in play here, not the least of which is FOUR DIFFERENT first overall Cleveland picks.

Bad blood.
Best Prospect since Lebron.
Actual Lebron.
Three different Canadian players!
Underachieving Bennet
Miami's pitch.
Positional redundancy between Waiters/Wiggins/Bennett/Lebron
Minnesota needing to get SOME value for Love.
Love willing to sign extension with Cleveland if Lebron is there.
Will Lebron go there without Love?
Will Lebron go there without love?
Can love exist between Gilbert and Lebron?
Can love exist in space?
Can anyone hear you scream in space?
Will Lebron and Love star in Space Jam 2?

Lolol Minnesota doesn't hold the cards. Cleveland could easily pass on him and just sign him a year later. No way should they give up Wiggins, sure as hell not Wiggins AND Waiters.

The problem is that Love will still only be under contract to that team for ONE YEAR. Without a guarantee he will sign an extension, no one will give up the farm for Love. If Cleveland signs Lebron, Minnesota can trade Love wherever they want. He'll just leave that team next year and go play with Lebron.

So... once again... Minnesota does not hold all the cards.

How is this impossible for you to understand? No one is trading for Love unless they are absolutely sure they can get him signed to an extension. The only way for Cleveland to be sure of that is to sign Lebron.

If they sign Lebron before getting Love, then they don't need to trade for him. He will sign next offseason.

I know you're a Minnesota homer, but surely you have to be able to see this SOMEWHAT objectively? Like... I can accept that Wiggins will probably be dealt for Love. It makes me sad, but it's a likely scenario.

I'm simply saying the Cavs shouldn't budge on that and if I were in charge, we wouldn't.

Love is under contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves for another season, so he's not a free agent, but when the bruising All-Star was spotted lounging in the Fenway stands, hangin' with Rajon Rondo and sipping Sam Adams, it led to wildly hopeful speculation that Love would not only welcome a trade to the Boston Celtics, he would be willing to sign an extension that would enable him to roam the parquet alongside Rondo for years to come, the way Kevin Garnett once did.

In fact, team and league sources confirm, that's a scenario that Love is willing to consider.

 I've already acknowledged the contract issue.

But as of now, Minnesota CAN hold Love for as long as it takes to get a good offer. They aren't in any rush to find one because until the All Star break, they dont NEED to do anything. Teams aren't going to stop calling for him. And I bet there is more than one team that he would be willing to sign an extension with. Minnesota holds more cards than Cleveland right now.

Rondo is in a similar situation to Love, in that his deal is coming up. The thought is that the Celtics are trying to pair Rondo and Love (or find another top player off the radar). If that fails, the thought is that they'll look to move Rondo and get something for him rather than losing him for nothing.
