Just quit with this shit.. It’s not happening..

Looks like a different player. Pretty wild how much more smooth and confident his maneuvers appear. I know Jawaan is better, but we could get by with Wanya playing like this on Wednesday.

Have to agree that Wanya looked way better on the right side. He looked completely comfortably over there. I hope he starts at Pittsburgh to get more of a look at him. Get a look at him at RT in in Denver too.

Getting a decent RT long term in the 3rd rd would be a huge hit for us

RunKC 12-22-2024 10:09 AM

Jeff Allen said Wanya looks like a natural RT. Hmmm

wazu 12-22-2024 10:21 AM

I was at the game so missed what happened here. Was Taylor injured?

Okay, usual disclaimer that we all love Andy Reid and what he's done for this team, but what in the actual **** has been going on in recent years at OT? How did Suamataia even get a starting job? How did they not realize that Morris was a far better fit at RT? They seriously couldn't have been that gung ho about it being Jawaan Taylors job when they were pretty open about the fact they thought he could work both sides of the OL.

Jay Glazer just said Jawaan has a mild knee sprain. Don’t think he’s gonna play on X mas with such a short timeline.

If Wanya continues looking solid at RT then I think you have to consider starting him there next year and telling Jawaan to get ready to play LT in 2025.

Sassy Squatch 12-22-2024 10:40 AM

Great. Gives Suamataia another year in the lab so they can really evaluate what his future is on the team while Taylor plays his last year out at LT.

Relax bro I’m ****ing around. I don’t wish injury on anyone, contrary to some who seemed happy yesterday when Dell went down. But I do think Morris (inexplicably) looked better than Taylor so there’s that.

pugsnotdrugs19 12-22-2024 11:19 AM

People underestimate how hard it is to switch sides for a guy who has done it one way for many years. Taylor would be included in that.

It’s like asking someone to go from right handed to left handed. All your movements go opposite and the muscle memory isn’t set up for that. Thankfully we have a 100-game starter at Left tackle coming back very soon, and Thuney is at least a left side guy.

I don't know about Taylor moving to LT but if Morris can take over at RT that'd be great. I don't know the implications of Taylor's contract but cutting him or even trading him sounds like a good idea to me. If we can get a good year out of Humphries in 2025 that would be great.

pugsnotdrugs19 12-22-2024 11:23 AM

But no matter how you slice it, it appears Wanya can be a legit RT for 2026 and maybe beyond. That would be fan-****ing-tastic for our roster build.

I don't wish injury on anyone but I agree with the second part. Taylor has not lived up to his $20 mil salary.

If we cut him this offseason it's a $35M dead cap hit according to Spotrac. He needs to play somewhere.

pugsnotdrugs19 12-22-2024 11:30 AM

I’d at least take a look at Taylor over at LT in OTAs. He’s got the athleticism. If he could pull it off, you’ve answered both tackle spots for next year without even adding a body yet.

Gary Cooper 12-22-2024 11:30 AM

So Wanya has to switch positions and block the best defensive player in the league? Not ideal. He looked decent yesterday but that was a handful of snaps against a different level of competition.

Sassy Squatch 12-22-2024 11:33 AM

Not like he was playing against chopped liver. Will Anderson Jr and Danielle Hunter are a very competent duo on the EDGE.

Ouch! Depends on how the other guys work out but trade him for a draft pick. 3rd rounder maybe?

They do, but I hope they help him against Watt and don't leave him on an island like Reid would do with Morris at LT.

Chiefspants 12-22-2024 11:43 AM

We’ll see how Wayna holds up after teams get tape on him on the right side. Remember, Niang, Wayna and even Kingsley had strong first starts until tape of their weaknesses got out.

But if Wayna holds strong? You have to at least think about putting Jawaan at the left side to open up our cap for other contracts. I have a feeling Spags is going to campaign heavily to resign Bolton, but if we could lock up McDuffie, too? Going with Jawaan at LT over Cam Robinson opens up possibilities like that.

Taylor is not an LT. And never has been. I don't know how some folks think an average RT would suddenly transform into a good LT when he has no experience there? Makes little sense.

Here we go again. Folks want to move an average RT with no LT experience to Pat's blindside because he'd OBVIOUSLY turn into Trent Williams overnight

Palangi 12-22-2024 02:10 PM

To be fair he did play some LT in college. So you can’t say no experience.

The thought of him at LT is because he has more of a LT game than that of a RT.

Chief Pagan 12-22-2024 02:10 PM

If you take into account his penalties, calling him average is probably fair. But otherwise, isn't his pass blocking usually pretty good?

Nobody is asking/expecting Trent Williams. If his pass blocking on the left isn't much worse than the right, then that might be a good option given who KC has under contract for one year.

Yes, it is an unknown how well he would transition if he had a full off season to commit to doing it.

Maybe DJ will be an option next year, but that isn't a given either. Maybe BV makes a big move to bring in another LT.

No he didn't. Orlando Brown, Morris and Kingsley did. Taylor has no record of playing regularly at LT at any level.

If KC felt he could be competent at LT they would have tried him there in training camp, preseason games etc. But that hasn't been the case and the fact that they trust Thuney out there before him paints a clear picture to me. Yeah. This idea didn’t come out of nowhere. The Chiefs brass made it clear they saw Taylor as a potential LT from Day 1.

I suppose we can hope Humphries would go for a 1 year prove it deal, but if the choice is between Cam Robinson or LT Taylor/McDuffie, you at least have to think about it if Taylor can be at least Donovan Smith from the left side.

Lol ER wrong again. I clearly stated above that there is no record of him playing LT REGULARLY!!. 18 emergency snaps in four years is not regular but nice try ROFL .

And can you provide the proof that he played "two games at LT" in college? :hmmm: Even if that was true. 18 snaps and two college games in his entire career is still virtually nothing. Fullstop.

In my perfect world, Humphries looks rock solid the rest of the way this season and comes back on a two year deal

That affords Kingsley plenty of time to grow into the role, and then we're golden for a 5-10 years at LT

Since making that comment they...

1. Drafted Morris
2. Signed Smith
3. Drafted Kingsley
4. Signed Humphries
5. Moved Thuney to LT and not Taylor

So if those comments were true, why have they not played Taylor at LT yet and chose all them other options instead? Folks need to do the maths. They see Taylor at practice every single day and never once tried him at LT. So why would they start now?

This makes sense. Humphries is in no position to demand top dollar imo. I think if he holds up well fot the rest of this season the two parties can come up with a fair deal and then we can let Kingsley develop behind the scenes. Hell, he might be an option for RT one day just like Morris tbh.

Yeah Humphries will have to be reasonable, his recent history pretty much demands it

But I'm not down with Kingsley as RT, they drafted him for the left and they need to just make it work... Heck needs to coach his ass off and really earn his paycheck on this

It was designed to get a competent tackle in the building and figure out things afterward. And in the aftermath the contract looks like a bargain for what was expected of him after several guards got paid exorbitantly.

There's nothing wrong with the contract for a RT. His play has just been more middling.

They paid to get a guy in the door because it would've been negligent to go into the draft or latter stages of FA without any stability at either tackle position.

This may be true. I certainly don't believe that Taylor can for sure play LT.

But it may be that they would only consider moving him with a full off season committed to it.

The first year, they had Smith. The second year they may have been overly optimistic about other options at LT and didn't want to try moving him during the season.

But given where KC is at, unless DJ is extended another year...

$20 million AAV for a RT who is currently playing worse than the guy he replaced… who is making $8 million AAV.

That’s not a “bargain”.

We won a superbowl with him playing well in the playoffs last year. Why are we cap watching? The bottom line is to win. Fullstop.

They also won a Super Bowl with Wylie at RT… not making $20 million AAV.

You are a funny little man

Not once have I stated he should be the starter. I’m just not closed minded either way to it.
You on the other hand are making up facts in your little head to prove your point. I just showed you were wrong. Now you want to pit me on the other side.

But it may be that they would only consider moving him with a full off season committed to it.

The first year, they had Smith. The second year they may have been overly optimistic about other options at LT and didn't want to try moving him during the season.

But given where KC is at, unless DJ is extended another year...

If he could play LT, he would be playing LT right now instead of Thuney.

This is why he’s making big money. He’s legit in pass pro. Got very little help yesterday. On an island most of the time.

Watt got a few Oscar worthy acting penalties though.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">T.J. Its his first game without a pressure since Week 7 of 2023 at the Rams per Next Gen Stats . <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/ChiefsKingdom?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#ChiefsKingdom</a></p>&mdash; Nick Jacobs (@Jacobs71) <a href="https://twitter.com/Jacobs71/status/1872283726320742573?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 26, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Couple costly penalties (nothing new) but he earned a lot of respect from me yesterday.

That was a great performance in a big game against an elite opponent, all while playing on an injured knee.

smithandrew051 12-26-2024 09:51 AM

TJ Watt got the star treatment on at least one of those holds.

Taylor should take it as a compliment that he reduced one of the best defensive players in football to flopping like a bitch for flags.

1. Drafted Morris
2. Signed Smith
3. Drafted Kingsley
4. Signed Humphries
5. Moved Thuney to LT and not Taylor

So if those comments were true, why have they not played Taylor at LT yet and chose all them other options instead? Folks need to do the maths. They see Taylor at practice every single day and never once tried him at LT. So why would they start now?

I read this three times and couldn’t get past maths.

Literally this. Kinda disgraceful to watch because TAylor just manhandled him the whole game and then Watt just resorted to flopping for flags.
