Forgive me for not being thrilled about him being the plan at RT.

1. Everyone needs to calm down about the money, things like OTs cost some money. He's 25 and athletic.

2. I he's a LT and he's good its a steal. If he struggles a bit or the Chiefs draft or trade for a LT, then we have an all world line and we are really only playing Thuney and this dude for the next two seasons.

3. I ****ing hate people who cry about missing out on comp picks.

4. Taylor is has to be more flexible on position than "I'm only a LT OBJ was."

I still can't see Niang as completely brokedick. He had a hip injury late in college and a knee injury after healing up from the hip. There's a metric shit-ton of guys in the NFL that had a college injury AND a knee injury. I'm sure the brain trust has back-up plans for the T position just like all the others and they've earned our trust with 2 SB in 4 years.

4 year starter at RT for the Jags. Last year was the first year he put up better than average pressure numbers. Not too far off top 10 but 20M APY?

So you're either going to pay a RT 20M or move a guy to LT that's never played there and pay him...20M, when he was projected at about 17.

LT money - At least that side of line is covered for four years.. We got what we needed from OBJr

Well this is a very interesting middle ground between trading for Tunsil and overpaying that sack of shit OBJ. This team doesn't mess around. You want to be here, great. You don't, see you the next time we kick the ever loving shit out of whatever garbage organization that overpays you.

$20 million a year for a LT is a steal if this works out. Looks like this will truly be a new position for him, though. He played 17 snaps at LT in the pros and only 2 games in college.

Might have a few issues early on, but if they believe he can do it then so be it, I'm on board. This is actually perfect, I didn't want OBJ back, and as much as I love Tunsil I did not see them giving up those picks and that money.

On to the next one!

I've stuck with believing he and his agent are idiots for turning down the Chiefs offer last year. He'll get paid, maybe even reset the market this year, but it won't be for a team that is QB'd by Patrick mf'ing Mahomes.

I like that we went for an ascending player instead of the premium priced established elite one, or the safe/overpaid choice.

We need to think in dynasty paradigms now and this move fits it. You stay at the top by making moves like this and hitting on them, not by busting your cap on free agent signings.

I'm sure Tunsil would have been great, but this has more upside.

BleedingRed 03-13-2023 01:07 PM

This is what scouting does for you, clearly Chiefs think he can play LT. And knew they could lock him down for 4+ years at a steal for LT.

Now its time for coaching to come in and make sure this kid transitions.... Considering we just did it with OBJ, I'm imagining we have the coaches to make it work.

Sassy Squatch 03-13-2023 01:07 PM

Why does PFF lists him as such an abhorrent run blocker, though? I usually wouldn't put much stock in those grades but it's just abysmally low.

Shit, they've got the benefit on the doubt on every group and player going forward until we hit rock bottom again. Want to sign Townsend to a 100 million dollar deal? Great, in Vichey I trust.

emaw1979 03-13-2023 01:07 PM

This is potentially a big upgrade over OBJ. He actually has the athleticism and feet to play the position, and OBJ didn't, which is why he struggled and always will struggle against speed.

I hope OBJ enjoys playing for winter break in Chicago because it won't be for the playoffs.

I don't know, but the Jags ran the ball well last year, so it didn't keep them from doing that either way.

I'd imagine run blocking will be easier on the left side too. Usually smaller guys at RDE/ROLB.

2 or 3 years from now when the tackle market is at 35mm a year we wil be very glad to have this kid. He has all the tools to be a fantastic pass blocker. Put him next to Thuney for a year or two and he'll figure it out pretty quick.

Taylor, a great pass blocker but bad run blocker

OBJ, a solid pass blocker but pretty good run blocker?

You have OBJ wrong. He's a great run blocker but a good pass blocker. And Taylor isn't bad at run blocking. It's just not his strength.

LMAO Yeah, that's quite a bit faster than old OBJ would move.

On the other....we still have a first round pick to trade....

We have ALL of our future 1st round picks. That has to be driving you crazy. Maybe we could trade 2 of them for someone!?

I'm not. Give the Cardinals a 4th. **** Juju.

Look if his pass sets are X times better, that is what Reid was looking for. Which makes me think we are not done.

I have a feeling this leads to us making a splash for a WR. Because we plan on letting Mahomes cook next year.
