I think it also demonstrates how much GMs in general like negotiating with unrepresented players. Seems like front offices would have little patience when getting in the weeds with people not accustomed to legalese and fine print. Then again, maybe they feel like they have a widower in a car dealership and are ready to present the Clear Coat option?

If one they love falls sure. I'd plug Niang in, sign an old vet as insurance, put the women and children in bed and go looking for dinner

They need more weapons now.

I don't see them forcing the weapons thing, it happens it happens. I do expect them to try to add Hopkins.

Ever since we learned OBJ wouldn't be tagged the one thing that stood out to me that didn't make sense was the report the Chiefs weren't tagging him because they wanted a "long term solution". Now seeing this it makes me wonder if the Chiefs were actually so high on Taylor that they didn't want to miss this opportunity to sign him instead of OBJ.

They saw a guy that they thought was an even better fit than Brown at LT, but since he's only played RT, they could get him a little cheaper.

Well he's 25 and his physical profile is exactly what the Chiefs like in OTs.

The Franchise 03-13-2023 02:01 PM

Also, tagging OBJ and trying to trade him made signing Taylor impossible.

He should use the word flexible lol, Taylor is flexible enough that he can take either side which means if an OT they really like happens to slide like Broderick Jones you can just leave Taylor at RT and he won't throw a fit like Brown would have.

Will be curious about the structure and I assume his cap hit will be low this season so we can add more players. I think I saw we only had $14 million available.

I would not mind resetting the market for a truly elite LT.

Second most important position on this team besides QB.

Yep, or they could have a RT they really like in the draft and let him battle it out with Niang. Signing Taylor opens up all of their options.

Best available of those positions seems like the best route. Could also throw WR in there depending on how this week goes.

Wonder if Tunsil was 1A and when they realized that Houston was asking too much....they pivoted to Taylor as their 1B.

Definitely possible, but they did this so quickly, I really don't think they wanted to pay Tunsil AND lose picks.

There was never a market and the Aaron Wilson ill-timed wrong tweet more or less reaffirmed things.

We have done these firesale rumors over and over with Houston and nothing happened. It's just click manufacturing. Tunsil was never 'available' like Cooks was never available.

Probably a $1mm ish deal this year which would count under our $16+ mm avail cap space.

Wouldn’t surprise me if this is more like a 3 year / $50 mm cap hit with $10mm in dead money if we move on after the third year. Makes it more likely we bring in another OT in the draft and keep the flexibility of moving Jawaan back to RT if it becomes necessary.

Hammock Parties 03-13-2023 02:15 PM

Add DHop and Marvin Mims or Trey Palmer in the draft.

Not talking about a permanent swing tackle. I’m saying it buys you time to develop your own left tackle and if you like your options, you can swing Taylor back to RT. Worst case scenario you have a slightly overpriced but excellent RT

RealSNR 03-13-2023 02:18 PM

You don't want a turnstile by any means at that position, but Thuney, Humphrey, Smith are such a solid interior that won't be going anywhere for at least 2 years (probably more) that I'm confident we can make shit work as Taylor makes the transition.

I hope people remember when Fisher switched sides. Yeah, he was also a rookie, but it's not easy or even something you just master in a single offseason. We might have some growing pains. That doesn't mean that the Taylor move was bad by any means, because if he does grow out of them, we've got a damn good LT.

Dante84 03-13-2023 02:18 PM

So, to recap:

+ We didn't use any draft picks to trade for Tunsil
+ Tunsil is 29, Taylor is 25
+ Tunsil wanted to reset the market, Taylor is playing LT on a (high) RT price tag
+ Our coaching staff has already helped a RT make the switch to LT full time, successfully.

When compared to OBJ, we got a younger, equally-if-not-better, less expensive player at LT for the next 4 years. Value, baby!

Sounds like Veach doing Veach things.

We can also draft a LT. You either do the Eric fisher approach and let him develop as a RT until he’s ready. Or you can get a 1 year bandaid to play RT until the Rookie LT is ready.

Of course its fantastic if Taylor winds up as a great LT. But I don’t think that means our next step is to fill RT instead of LT.

The sad part is it didn't have to be this way.

Hell, I think if OBJ kept his LAST agent instead of firing him, we would've had a deal done last year and not even bothered with the tag.

Waiting as long as he did and then hiring a guy whose only skill is "Refuse all offers until its our price!" was what he thought would get the job done. He legit believed we were in the desperate position and would eventually cave.

I liked OBJ, but I hope somebody takes that gay ass foxtail and throws it in his eye like Jeff Triplette throwing a flag into his dad's eye

How many snaps at LT does he have in the NFL?
He was the starting RT for the Jaguars. It sure seems that we are just repeating the same thing with Brown, and now with Taylor.
I sure hope it works out like any other fan but I am just stating the truth about what he has done in the NFL.

If you want the bag, there is a way to go about getting it in KC. And ****ing around, is not how you do it.

Whenever Chris Jones time is done they'll be able to pay someone else but if like Nick Bolton or Snead come in wanting 20+ million dollars they're gonna be out.
