It's not folklore, it's the "thing that happened that I watched and remember, regardless what you our other KU fans think"

KC_Connection 04-19-2025 12:34 PM

His two best stretches by game score there were the end of December (against inferior competition) and then right before he got hurt. He was clearly trending upwards going into March.

Because it is just blatantly wrong. People act like he had this Kelly Oubre type year at KU. Where early in the year he couldn't even walk and chew gun then all of a sudden he was amazing. He was amazing all year. All year. I provided the game logs. It cannot be disputed.

He was more consistent than Wiggins was.

The game logs that show him significantly improving over the course of the season, especially from November to December? Those game logs?

If you want me to go get the per 40 min stats by month for him, I will.

Joel Embiid significantly improved between KU and while in the NBA. Not while at KU. He was a great, consistent player at KU who got hurt. Then became all world in the NBA.

Clearly, it was this! His improvement was very noticeable and the injury clearly kept us from a serious run for a championship!

Fansy the Famous Bard 04-20-2025 04:23 PM

If I remember correctly, Joel's issues early on were fouls. He was always in foul trouble so had a hard time staying in the game. He got better as the season went.

Yep, he had to learn to play under controll, as the season went along, so did his performances.

Goff and a contingent flew out to Phoenix on Sunday and made a pitch. Basically a bench role and an off the record head coach in-waiting offer. Odd connection, but I play golf with the best friend of his brother-in-law. He did not know much else, but that is a direction KU is exploring.

Personally, I think it would be a home run and I think most KU fans would be excited by it.

That lines up with the rumor I heard as well.

Yeah, sign me up for this one. If he can do for our guards what Manning did for our bigs, it’s a great move.

Ceej 05-08-2025 06:22 AM

I think JV would be a homerun hire of a coach, once HCBS decides to move on.

Experience at all 3 major stages - PG at a blueblood, long/solid career in the league, and coaching experience in the league.

Sign me up.

Jacque is way over-qualified for just an assistant coach position so I'm thinking there is a lot of validity to the rumor. He'd be coach in waiting. I mean, it did work out for Duke I guess

KC_Connection 05-08-2025 12:32 PM

Hard to have much of an opinion on Vaughn as a coach at a program like KU without any college head coaching experience.

He did have that Brooklyn Nets team playing hard for that one season after he replaced Nash though.

Kiimo 05-08-2025 12:44 PM

Yeah and his head coaching positions in the NBA were problematic organizations for reasons that didn't have to do with him. He's smart and experienced. I don't hate it at all.

It is not a rumor. I know it first hand unless JV's brother-in-law is lying.

Again, it was a Sunday trip to Phoenix and a feeling-it-out discussion about a bench position and head coach in-waiting designation. Not exactly an offer from KU, but a hey what would you think of this type of deal.

One of the things being considered is the NCAA giving ALL athletes 5 years (regardless of sport). If the NCAA "grandfathers" those who entered college in 2021 & did not redshirt then KJ could take a redshirt next year and play in 2026-27.

Like many others, I always suspected that Coach Self would only move on if Popovich retired. But that opening is filled. I predict he will stay at Kansas until he retires… unless the Spurs have an early break up with Johnson. Then maybe …

Wait until the judges just scrap eligibility rules entirely considering college sports are quasi-professional now.

KJ will then play here forever; he'll be bringing the energy and bricking 10 footers well into his 40s.

I don't really see Joe Dooley, Doc Sadler, Barry Hinson, or Danny Manning as anywhere close to being yes men. Maybe that's because they were just more outspoken and each branched out on their own. His current staff does fit your profile.

There is no way Self didn't approve of him being the coach in waiting. That a conversation has taken place concerning how long does Self plan on coaching and is he good with Vaughn succeed him. I'm assuminh by the time this leaded out, all that had been done,

Doesn't mean its a done deal. Maybe Self gave him an answer about how long he's staying. Vaugh is not an asst. coach in college basketball. He's only taking the job to be the head coach in waiting. Which I'm good with.

Huge get for us with Dame Starr.

Going to be fun watching him and Peterson together next year.

That's great but why didn't you post on the football thread?

So how is the starting five shaping up?

Darryn Peterson - PG/SG
Dame Sarr - SG
Tre White - G/F
Bryson Tiller - F
Flory Bidunga - F/C

Is that kinda what we're looking at?

Hopefully Darrion Williams instead of Tiller.

I don't see Tiller starting.

I'd guess:

Peterson
Council/Dawson - who I think might run the point some too while DP plays the #2
Sarr
White
Bidunga

Well, however it plays out, it appears we're gonna have a much more athletic lineup out there than we've had in a few years.
