North San Diego is on Fire!

Literally, on fire.

Prayers for all san diego Planet members, family, friends, etc.

I have a pretty large fire just over the mountain from me, hoping winds die down.

We've literally had 5-7 large wildfires pop up today alone and quite a few people have lost everything.

This is a good reminder - if the zombie apocalypse (or anything apocalyptic in nature) were to occur, the roads and highways will get you nowhere.

Time to buy that personal jetpack!

In58men 05-14-2014 05:35 PM

Hopefully it spreads to Qualcomm.

Lighten up, Francis. Don't get your panties all bunched up. That could cause friction and start another fire.

Seriously though, sorry for my poor attempt at humor. I hope nobody is physically harmed by these fires. Homes and possessions can be replaced, but people can't. Stay safe.

DJJasonp 05-14-2014 05:58 PM

Camp Pendleton has had over 1,000 acres burn today.

Buck 05-14-2014 06:22 PM

I'm in no danger, but over 15,000 houses have been evacuated so far.

Buck 05-14-2014 06:36 PM

Fire in Lakeside now

Chief_For_Life58 05-14-2014 06:44 PM

good

cosmo20002 05-14-2014 06:46 PM

This is pretty much an annual event isn't it?
I remember going to a Padres game years ago and there was a huge fire in the hills beyond the outfield. Planes were flying by dropping whatever they drop on fires. It was kinda cool.

This. Christ. It could happen really easily here too. The wheat is about a week from being d-e-a-d dead and I've got a lot of places I can't get corn up. This place is close to be a tinder box.

Prayers to all affected.

My Aunt lives in Santee. I'll be going there at the end of July, early August for a family reunion...if my Aunt's house doesn't burn down. I'm supposed to sleep in one of her bedrooms.

We are turning into West Texas.

sd4chiefs 05-14-2014 07:22 PM

The Firefighters have been doing an amazing job keeping this from becoming a total disaster.

2003 and 2007 were the last times we had a fire of this magnitude and I don't quite think that this is on that level yet, except there are 8 separate wildfires right now which is more fires than usual. In square mileage affected, it's not as big yet.

Scary thing is that Fire season isn't usually until September, but we had a major drought this winter so we could be looking at a 5-6 month fire season.

Here was the reading in my car today. It's been an awful, hot, dry year.

Buck 05-14-2014 08:02 PM

htismaqe 05-14-2014 08:05 PM

Good luck you guys. That shit is ****ing scary.

Total destruction ****ing sucks.

LoneWolf 05-14-2014 08:28 PM

Do they have any idea what is starting the fires? I realize it's drier than a popcorn fart, but there has to be an ignition source.

It's so dry here a fire starts if someone farts.

I was evacuated today.
Second time being evacuated in 6 years.
Time to move.

Mojo Rising 05-15-2014 12:11 AM

Experts say that El Nino is on the way.

Good news is that usually means lots of rain for California (Mid west too but don't hold me to that.)

Bad news is that the warmer ocean temps equal warmer land temps. Could be a hot summer.

The beginning was the 45 inches of snow in Mammoth (ski resort) the week before my Spring Break trip the last week of March. I was on the mountain 7 days in a row. I think it is coming.

The last El Nino in 97? I snowboarded on the 4th of July at Squaw in shorts and a T Shirt.

I wasn't thinking that these fires were intentionally set, but I was wondering if they were being blamed on stupid smokers throwing their cigarettes out of their car windows. There are few things that piss me off more than seeing someone throw a cigarette butt out their car window. My neighbor has an eighteen year old son who liked to walk along the sidewalk smoking his cigarettes and then throw the butts in people's yards. After picking his cigarette butts out of my yard on Saturday, I decided to teach him a lesson. I had some friends over for a barbeque that evening and after they left I collected all the beer cans and put them all on the top of his car. I think the message got through because I haven't had any cigarette butts in my yard since.

Buck 05-15-2014 08:56 AM

FBI is investigating. According to my boss anyways.
