First Richard Bull, Now this: Shirley Temple dead

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/12/ar...ies-at-85.html

Shirley Temple Black, who as a dimpled, precocious and determined little girl in the 1930s sang and tap-danced her way to a height of Hollywood stardom and worldwide fame that no other child has reached, died on Monday night at her home in Woodside, Calif. She was 85.

Her publicist, Cheryl Kagan, confirmed her death.

To the good ship!

Sad

I'm actually surprised she was still around. I thought she passed some time ago.

Baby Lee 02-11-2014 09:27 AM

Huh, I just saw her yesterday on a list of 'people you thought were dead, but are still alive.' Abe Vagoda, etc.

I knew she was [yesterday], but ironic I'd be reminded of it at this particular time.

My wife and I were saying the same thing this morning. Could have sworn she passed away a couple of years ago.

I guess she's now on the Good Ship Embalmipop.

When you're a child star, you can be in the spotlight for a long time. Her heyday was actually before my mother was born, and yet she was still only 85 when she passed away. It's kind of amazing. And good for her for making the transition to real life after child stardom. I wonder if she was able to keep her money or if it all went to other people.

I heard that agents stole her blind. Don't know how true that is, however.

She also married into money, sat on several corporate boards [including Disney], was twice US Ambassador [Ghana and Czechoslovakia], and US representative to the UN.

To be honest, I thought so too. I really don't know much about her except that she is iconic of an era (pre-me) and thought it would be newsworthy.

Abe Vagoda is still alive?

good for him.
