SceneItAll Tournament: Round 1, Heat 149
 

The rules:

In Round 1, I'm going to put up three randomly selected scenes from the nomination thread.

You'll vote for your ONE favorite scene among the three. The key here is FAVORITE. We're not talking about the 'best' or 'most powerful' or 'most meaningful'. We're talking about the scene that you most enjoy watching, however you define that.

The winners will move on. I'll also take the 10 highest-scoring second-place scenes and they'll advance as wild cards.

Some of our nominations did not include clips. This will be noted. If you find a clip, please post it and let me know so I can update it if it moves on.

Oooh good ones

This is another tough heat. After a lot of thought, my votes are:

#1 - Fight Club. I enjoy a good speech. It has meaning.

#2 - The Princess Bride. That actor is annoying, but the scene is entertaining.

#3 - Inglorious Basterds. This is a great movie. Great, great movie. In the context of the movie, this scene is riveting. But the scene itself is slow and I hate the sound of people eating. It really annoys me. This is still better than a #3 scene, though.

Oh dang tough choice between Basterds and Princess Bride.

This is a ridiculous heat full of should-be contenders.

Fight Club. That speech is so true.

I have never understood the appeal of Fight Club.

Meanwhile, Inglourious Basterds was just eh, but The Princess Bride runs away with it.

Basterds.

One thing I love about Waltz in the Basterds scene is his French is so impeccable and metered I don't need subtitles.

I took a lot, a LOT, of French in HS and college, but that was a long time ago. I can still catch a good bit, but hurried speech or regional accents throw me off my game.

This is an epic three-way battle. I expect future rounds to look more like this than some of the routs we've seen in Round 1. Anyone want to help break the tie?

Finally had to cast my vote on this one for Princess Bride. Shame the other two don't advance. The gasp she lets out at the end of the Inglorious scene is an incredible moment and almost got my vote. And Fight Club is just amazing from beginning to end. Crap. I already have doubts, but I'm sticking with Princess Bride. The Sicilian is brilliant.

The Princess Bride survives a cunning game of wits and moves on.
