Beloved: Your Favorite Chiefs. Round 1, Heat 4. Specialists.

This one is going to be more interesting than one would think, because there's a variety of personalities, and performance on here.

Pick your three FAVORITE players, the ones that you liked based on performance, personality, whatever.

This is the only heat of specialists. There are only 17 who played for three or more years as a Chief.

I debated manually pulling the returners over, but decided to keep them in their original positions, in part because you have people like Podolak who would be hard to classify and in part because I'm sure I'd miss some folks.

I voted for 4 because I couldn't choose.

Louis Aguiar (1-balled punting maestro)
Dustin Colquitt (MVP)
Jan Stenerud (HOF and very nice guy)
Nick Lowery (14 year stalwart and I met him when I was a kid)

This is a really hard one, and makes me realize that special teams people tend to be pretty cool. My favorites are:

#1 - Dustin Colquitt. It sounds like he's entertaining, and he's also just so dang good on the field. He almost makes me enjoy punts.

#2 - Louis Aguiar. How can Louis not make a favorite special teams list? He tried out for quarterback. How cool is that?

#3 - Kendall Gammon. He had a good perspective on his job, and seemed pleasantly eccentric.

There are all sorts of people on this list that I like. Gafford has been quiet off the field but perfect on the field. Lowery is a guy I'd like to have dinner with. Stenerud always seemed like a great guy. Jerrel Wilson was a fullback and a punter, which is cool. And Stoyanovich is a favorite just for that long field goal against evil incarnate.

If I was going to go to summer camp with a position group, I think it would be the special teamers.

Yeah I understand. This is a tough heat. I wanted very badly to pick Aguilar because I saw him drinking a Rainier (Seattle company) beer after a game while he was signing autographs and thought that was cool as shit. Couldn't though.

1. Colquitt. Been here forever, and amazing at what he does.

2. Lowery. Hard. Pete gave me one of my best ever memories as a kid when he hit that 53 harder to beat Denver, but Nick was my first love as a kicker. Youy never forget your first.

3. Jan. I never got to watch him play, but I have seen enough, and have heard enough to adore him as an all time favorite. Plus I know Klancy and she's an awesome person, so that was enough to put him in.

Really wish I could've taken Pete and Louie too. Toughest heat yet. Weird, right? Lol

I felt the same way. I wasn't expecting it, but the winners of this heat could be tough to reckon with.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I know it'll be deep in before I vote against Colquitt.

1. Jan Stenerud - Chiefs and PFB HOF and part of the 75th Anniversary All Time Team. Still pissed he missed a 29 and 32 ydr in the '71 Christmas Day Game against the Fins
2. Jerrel Wilson - "Thunderfoot" Plus 43 yard career average. Chiefs HOF. Set the standard in the early days of the AFL/NFL for Punter Quality
3 a. Nick Lowery - Chiefs HOF - he's a goof, but a hell of a kicker
3 b. Dustin Colquitt has been fantastic and finished a close 3rd

Linny the cold only played for two years as a Chief, so he didn't make the cut.

The Stenerud/Lowery debate always interests me. I think people tend to feel more warmly toward Stenerud than Lowery, though I guess we'll see if that's true. I've been unable to differentiate between them. I really like both of them and thought they were great players and interesting people.
