Off-season WR possibilities

Seeing a lot of teams with sub .500 records with WRs that need to get with Mahomes.

Who is available and who would you like to see us pursue to go with Rice and Watson.

You bring up an interesting point about $$....the Chiefs will have cap space but they have a lot of decisions to make on both sides of the ball...

Does Veach correct so hard that he dumps all the resources into the offense and lives with what ever the defense is...?

I think 15 will be in his ass as soon as this season is over and letting him know this ain't gonna fly...

That doesn't even factor in the massive issue that is the LT position...on top of losing multiple high level defensive players.

I think the day they upped Mahomes contract was when they knew Chris Jones wasn't gonna be here after this season bc he won't play ball on a fair contract.

I think there's an outside chance Kelce retires this year. He talked about how hard last year was for him and his body and this year looks worse. Next year has to be his last year IMO. No way are they paying him $19 million in 2025 and honestly I think his body isn't gonna hold up.

Other guys like Thuney will probably be gone after next year too.

Even with guys like Bolton, Sneed and Creed being signed we'll have quite a bit of money long term for a WR

Ok lets have a quick convo about the position the Chiefs are in.

Mahomes contract is what it is.

CEH and McKinnon are both toast so you need to find 2 capable backup RB's especially with Pacheco's style.

The WR position is flaming shit and needs a total overhaul, you'll at least save money on getting rid of MVS.

If Kelce retires we're talking needing a TE also...

The OL is in a really weird spot, you can't bring Donovan Smith back...is Morris a LT...so far you say no but he's young..Taylor has been terrible..if you kick Thuney to save money now you need a guard too..Allegretti probably is gone too.

Jones is gone..Danna is gone..Nnadi should be gone..Wharton is also a FA

I'd be hardpressed right now to say either Gay or Tranquill will be back..I think both those guys can do better elsewhere money wise.

Sneed is someone they will probably try to get something done with but that is why they won't have a ton of money elsewhere, that and fixing WR. Mike Edwards is gone and Justin Reid has a good chance of being good too.

That is a ton of overhaul on both sides.

I think Kelce will stay 1 more year. Just don't see him going out like this. Only reason I think he could would be to get in the HOF with his brother at the same time.

RB isn't hard. Productive guys like Devin Singletary go for like $3 million. And like it or not they brought it Omenihu and drafted FAU to replace Chris Jones and Mike Danna so it's not completely bare. Sneed is tagged IMO.

But yeah they'll have money for a big fish and a smaller wave 2 guy like a Nelson Agholor for example.

I think they're gonna get at least 2 WR's and a RB2 in FA and then go after a LT or WR in the first rd.

Good post.

It is a lot but I think Veach always does better when he has a solve problems instead of "running it back."

I like to see most of the team back.

I would hate to see Jerrick hang it up. If he has one more year in him, the team needs him and the blocking for Mahomes.

Clyde can glide right out of town with MVS. They can book a flight together and save on airfare. If Skyy can fit in their luggage (and he should) take him too.

Toney? I don't know yet.

We just don't have the draft capital to swing a trade for a big time receiver, anyway. And I doubt Veach or Clark is real high on trading future premium picks for what could turn out to be a one or two year rental.

The receiver position is going to have to be fixed through free agency and the draft. There is no other way I see it getting done, unless they do trade high picks and hamstring the other positions of need, especially if we lose out on a Jones or Sneed or Gay (if not most or all).

I don’t know that we want to keep Clyde but the dude is a much better player this year. Definitely not a guy to complain about. Maybe we were too tough on him because of where he was drafted but also the Austin ekeler effect where RBs run through quicksand after an ankle injury

If we're trading picks for a player, he's going to come here with a new contract so he won't be a rental.

We NEED a player that will come and play alongside Rice the next 4-5 years minimum. It would be idiotic if they get a stop gap player.

The last time we had one specific position group embarrass the team this bad was the OL in the TB SB and look what KC did.

Signed Thuney and drafted Creed and Smith. They also traded for Orlando Brown.

I expect Veach to have a similarly aggressive plan for the WR position this offseason. Sign a top tier WR, draft a WR in the first 2 rounds and come back and draft a sleeper a few rounds later.

They need to get RR out of the room and nuke it.

Good point. The contract negotiations with potential trade target would be problematic considering all the big time free agents of our own we need to deal with, and that's why getting a slightly above average free agent or two and drafting a guy high seems the route they'll take. I don't feel like there is some established superstar that's going to make his way to the Chiefs in the offseason, unfortunately.

Top 5 potential FA WR next year, per PFF who will / can we sign?
  • Tee Higgins
  • Michael Pittman Jr.
  • Mike Evans
  • Marquise Brown
  • Calvin Ridley

Of those, Brown and Ridley are the only 2 that probably even make FA.

I think Evans will as well. Unless they find terms in the short pre-free agency window, and that seems unlikely.

It’s similar to the Jones situation with the Chiefs.
