What do you want the Chiefs to do with their FAs?

This is an idea that's really been going through my head, especially with the Jah Reid re-signing. I think Reid may be provided some camp competition, but I believe they plan to start him next year. Which brings me to this question...

What do you want the FO to do with the rest of our upcoming FAs?

Roughly 31 million in cap space right now and 6 of that goes to draft picks. 25 million left, with potential to go up a couple million via cuts.

Personally, as of this day, I consider Berry, DJ, and Howard must keeps. These guys are playing at their highest levels and they don't have any true potential replacements on the surface. It will be costly to do so as well.

Then, I think if Tamba wants to truly be a Chief for life, you try to bring him back at a discount and hopefully Ford is ready to take over at least half the downs.

I think Marcus Peters' emergence and potential makes Sean Smith the most expendable of the class. If he can grow into the top 10, top 5 corner he can truly be, they need to save the cash here. (Though they likely won't have enough anyway)

Would also like to keep either Abdullah or Branch with the $ left at that point.

Keep in mind-- Kelce, Poe and Fisher are all due the following year and while Fisher will likely receive a 1st round tender for 2017, the other two will command nice contracts as well.

The Chiefs deep talent pool has created a nice problem, and one that fortunately we can wait a little longer to delve into as the 2015 season rolls along. Nonetheless, tough decisions are ahead and I'd like to see what different individuals want to take place.

In the meantime, go Chieeeeeeeeeeefssssssss

The reason why we're doing good without Charles is because it forced Reid to take the attention away from him. He was 45% of the offense before his injury. He's probably the best overall RB of all time but when he comes back the focus shouldn't be always on JC because other teams that's what they focused on game day. Charles without a doubt will be back and starting but don't make him the focal point. He was leading the league in TDs scored the past 2 seasons before his injury. Dude is just a straight up beast but the focus can't always be on him

Who's to say Dorsey can't find the next Sean Smith coming off of a rookie deal and we can give said player 5 mil per year?

That's what I'm down with. Easier said than done though.

I love Charles as much as the next guy, but a 30 year old rb coming off an acl injury that counts 6 mil against my cap isn't something I'd enjoy doing.

You can easily replace both Abdullah and Branch with a player in the draft. DeVito is basically been replaced by Howard or Nunez-Roches.

Allen hasn't been replaced by anyone on this roster.

Sucks he keeps getting injured, but he's a key cog on the wheel. As someone said, you sign him to a play by game incentive contract, but you make the effort to re-sign him.
I agree. They should make the effort. The injuries should allow for a friendly contract... his familiarity and versatility with the scheme is not something to overlook. I really don't think he will fetch wild money on the market. Most teams just won't know what he's worth like we would, and the injuries would turn them off as well.

Not a must-keep.. but they should have a talk with him and get a feel for his intentions.

Allen has a pretty bad injury history. If he's not cheap, he's gone

I'd rather this than to see them hand over a long and wildly expensive contract with the guaranteed money that typically comes with it.

I like the idea of F-tagging, if they really can afford to.

I think you give Charles a chance to come back next year. If he isn't the same guy, then you cut him loose and re-sign Poe or Kelce with the $.

If you could coax jerry into giving us a pick for him, I'd do that instead.

Right, well the tag is going to have the highest cap hit of all options and really isn't a good option if you want to keep other guys. If they tag Smith, they're basically saying they'd pay him 10 a year or more, so I think that's what they would do ultimately.

But of course I really don't see them bringing him back at that price.

It's really an ugly situation. No doubt in my mind that they don't really need him... but he's JAMAAL CHARLES. Just feels so wrong to cut loose of him... but then, there's that 6 mil in cap they could use elsewhere. My gut says they keep him as is, and work around the cap in other ways... which is.. okay.

I don't think he gets what people think he'll get as a UFA.

And I do think he's incredibly valuable for this team. Offensive line guys go down all the time. You don't want a Linkenbach/McGlynn situation ever again. Re-signing Stephenson avoids that completely. He's not going to be an All-Pro, but he plays well, especially in the short term situations, and he knows the system and players. Synergy is huge. System knowledge is enormous in Reid's system.

They need to re-sign Stephenson even if it costs a little more than most here are willing to stomach.

As mentioned before, Geoff Schwartz and Branden Albert were similar problems. Allen has only played like 30% of the games this season. He was out all last season. He's had problems before that.

He's the kind of player that you let explore FA and figure out he's not worth the big money he wants, and if someone stupidly overpays him, then sayonara.

He could stay though. Tyvonn Branch is an elite caliber DB on paper when you look at his size and speed, but he too was injured all the time in Oakland and ended up taking a smaller deal.

I just think that with Jeff Allen being so young, he's going to think that this is the time for him to strike and get a nice contract. Hopefully that's not here.

They could rework someone else's current contract to open up more space for the 2016 season. That would open up the tag for Sean, as well as remove any concern about the big guaranteed money as he gets closer to 30.

It's not that easy.

Sutton's defense is very specific about the corner's particular skill set. Both Smith and Peters play the game very similar. There just aren't that many guys out there that fit the bill physically with the talent level to play that position in the system.

You know what I would do? I'd start looking at attempting to get a trade deal done with Minnesota for Xavier Rhodes.

You want to see this thread flip the shit out? I'd call up the Vikings and offer to trade Travis Kelce for Rhodes and renegotiate a long term deal with Rhodes, who's locked up only through 2017.
