Matthews and Marner are historically bad in the postseason compared to their regular season production. And some drop off makes sense... you aren't going to score 60 goals in a season and then simply have the same production in the postseason. However, they never seem to have another gear unless there's just open ice in front of them, which of course happens far less in the postseason.

Nylander has stepped up this postseason and one guy I like watching is Knies... I thought overall the team has looked better, because in the past on offense they've just looked lost on the ice, continuously skating into the slot with zero plan just to get the puck turned over. Not that they haven't fooled everyone before, but thought they had looked a little more for real this time.

For depth, yeah they wrapped themselves up in four $10+ million contracts, they don't particularly enjoy playing defense or at times even working very hard for offense. By comparison, I don't think the Panthers have a single player over $10 million. I don't think they've necessarily lacked scoring depth (probably just as much/more so their top guys' problem offensively), but paying damn near $50 million for 4 guys you're obviously going to lack elsewhere.

At least Marner and Tavares are free agents, that will clear up some cap space for future bad decisions.

I expect they’re gonna give Knies almost 10M a season this offseason, which wouldn’t be a bad decision at all based on what he is already and what he projects to be.
