OK..ill agree with you somewhat...old Star Wars is better..... im not a hater of this new stuff as much as the majority.....Both new movies so far are very well made and better than 95% of what passes for a "blockbuster" these days....

Episode 1 and 2 have both sucked donkey balls. The new trilogy is treating the old trilogy like a baby treats a diaper. Lucas should have left well enough alone.

The only things I dont like so far are the Midichorians thing..which Lucas pretty much dropped in the 2nd film.....the kids who have played Anakin are pretty bad....and Jar Jar of course...everything else has been great.

Empire Strikes Back is great because Lucas didn't direct it.

There is a cartoon in the middle with Boba Fett, it is actually not that annoying and the only redeeming part of the thing.

From what I'm told, the scenes with vader and the imperials were taken off the cutting room floor from Episode 4 (this was between 4 and 5), and don't really look in-place.

Mark Hamill had been in a motorcycle accident shortly before this was taped, and looks like he's been up on a drinking binge for about a week.

There's a 10 minute stretch if memory serves where there is no speech at all, just wookies braying at each other.

Chewbacca's dad watches some kind of virtual reality wookie porn.

Bea Arthur sings.

It really is as bad as it is billed.

Jefferson Starship is in it too.

I enjoy bad movies, and watch the famously bad ones when I have a chance. But there is funny-bad, and then there is unwatchable-appalling-disgraceful-bad...

The user reviews at IMDB from the star wars nerds are good for a laugh though. In one of these comments, it's called "Yiddish theatre in space"

Its still a shame that Lucas didn't wait till after LoTR to make these 3, it would have been a much better effort if he had, IMHO.

My expectations were pretty low for Episode 1, as I knew it was just a set up to the other two movies. Had it been a great story Lucas wouldn't have started with Episode 4 to make the movies. The addition of JarJar for humor really killed that movie. The second one was a better movie, not a classic by any means, but decent enough.

I just hope that when Lucas passes away that someone will bring the series back to life in a better way. Who knows, maybe the talked about TV series will salvage this.

There was also a damn ewok movie with a family that crash landed on Endor? Anyways, had some ewok little creature but was fast as hell.

THis was around the same time, 1986 or 1987, that disney had their Sunday night 6:00 movies. Anyone remember "Fuzzbucket?"

Ep. 2 was definitely a lot better than 1. I'm sure I will go see the third one, yep.

No doubt the third will be a commerical success. I was just expressing my general disappointment with the new trilogy so far.

I am one in a million, I think that Jar Jar's comic relief was BADLY needed. He brought a little humor to a long, and for the most part, boring movie.

Could they have done the comic relief better than Jar Jar? Sure, but I thought in contrast to the rest of the movie it was good enough.

It will probably be attached with "The Incredibles" if the pattern stays the same......Epd 1 was with "A Bugs Life" and Epd 2 was with "Monsters Inc."

egahd man!

There is a giant issue with doing movies about Jedi Knights, and it is damn hard to over come. They are basically a sect of monks who bottle up all emotion and are supposed to be passive. Generally speaking, they are one dull boring group.

For another look at Episode III's Vader, check out the Episode III spot on the new Star Wars DVDs (the special features disc). It's cool.

I can't wait for Episode III.

How does one explain the excitement of the original three movies then?

Hammock Parties
10-11-2004, 01:35 PM
Because they aren't all about Jedi Knights. There are only five force-wielders in the original trilogy. It's mostly about the galactic civil war.

Jedi Knights aren't boring anyway. They are bad ass mofos with swords of pure energy. Throw in a few Dark Jedi and the party really gets kicking (see Darth Maul).

As far as Jar Jar....I didn't mind him. I could have done without the poop and fart jokes, though.

Your right there! Like I stated earlier....there are things I dont like about the new films, but Lucas tried to fix alot of that in the 2nd film...such as the Midichlorians issue. But overall, they are really pretty good films. Different from the original series yes, but still pretty dang good.....People will always complain about something because the films will never live up to what they had dreamed about in their own heads all these years.

I guess this is one area where I can (imo) be considered a nerd. I love all the Star Wars movies, even the new ones and I cannot wait until Episode III comes out.

I won't go so far as to wait in line in a costume for a week before the opening though.

If another writer/director/producer were to get permission from Lucas to carry on the series I'd be all for it. I would like to see a version only for adults though.

There never will be. Heinlein is dead, and they ****ed up one of his greatest books so badly I hope that the team responsible for the movie never goes near a script again. Then again, they could make a sequel were they actually follow the real story. That might be nice. They could call it,"StarShip Troopers II: The Real Story, So RAH Doesn't Come Back From The Dead And Beat The Shit Out Of Us For ****ing Up His Book". It's a long title but I think it's kind of catchy.
