I'm going with Al Saunders. It's been said a number of times by CP that's who is in line for the job.

He can look like a genius one minute, the next like a f*cking dumbass. Too inconsistant.

I like Ferentz also, although I wouldn't call him the next DV. Probably closer to a Marty, because his emphasis is on defense and running the ball. He's an O-line coach and really believes in building a team by winning in the trenches. He has NFL experience as an O-line coach for the Titans during Eddie George's prime years.

He's held in pretty high regard by NFL teams as a capable head coach. He's not a prima donna, more of a players coach with a hard edge...think Bill Cowher. In fact, there's a lot of speculation that the Steelers are keeping Cowher around until Ferentz finally decides to move back to the pros.

Impossible to tell. If I were to call a front runner it would be Suanders. It all depends as well if CP will remain after that point.

Ferentz is nothing like Marty, so bite your tongue. He's really not much like Cowher either.

And Ferentz did not work for the Titans. He worked for the Browns/Ravens from 1992-1998.

Marty = emphasis on Defense and running game
Ferentz = emphasis on defense and running game

Cowher = Hard-nosed players coach...not prima donna
Ferentz = Hard-nosed players coach...not prima donna

I'm not saying they're the same coach, or they have the same style. I was just trying to say he wasn't the next Dick Vermeil (in response to another post) and giving examples of who he more closely resembles. Apparently you think I'm saying he's an exact clone of these guys, which I'm not. Feel free to tell us more about him since I'm so wrong.

Marty = running the ball all the time, even when it's 3rd-and-15, has a big problem admitting it when something isn't working
Marty = emphasis on bringing in fully-developed players (aka stars) and letting young players rot on the bench

Ferentz = creative coach who will spread the field, favorite play is the jailbreak screen something Marty hasn't even seen, not afraid to change things up if things aren't working
Ferentz = developing players, known in both the NCAA and NFL as a teacher, a technician, and a mentor by guys like Johnathon Ogden

Cowher = fiery and emotional, foams at the mouth and spits, prefers the 3-4 defense and blitzing
Ferentz = mostly reserved, quiet coach, prefers the 4-3 defense and pressure from the line.

Ferentz = Belichek = John Fox

Many times Belichek & Fox will use a 3- 4 defense.

No way that Bob Stoops takes a offensive coorinator job. No frigging way.

King Carl needs to go with DV when he goes and we need to get Poli from NE. Then let him pick his man. The die is cast. DV leaves the job is Al Sauders for the taking.

So will Ferentz. My point was not 4-3 vs. 3-4. It was base defense and getting pressure from the guys in the trenches vs. blitz defense and getting pressure through a scheme.

What if we totally overhauled the team and dropped saunders (kept Gun, cuz, well hes the best,) Hired a new coach, new oc and completely revamped the team with young guys (We can keep our young GOOD talent....) We'd Suck for a year or two but we could potentially have 3-4 years there of SB glory. It would be worth it for just one.

Out of the current offensive coordinators with the best offenses, I don't know that any of these guys would make good head coaches----Saunders, Tom Moore of Indy, Charlie Weis of N.E., Tom Rossley of GB. There aren 't many good ones out there. A lot of head coaches still call their own plays (Holmgren, Martz, Reid, Shanahan, Gruden, Mariucci, etc., so if you want an offensive minded head coach, you'll probably have to go to the college ranks and look at Jeff Tedford of Cal or Mark Richt of Georgia.

I'm not accepting for anything under $1,000,000 a year, plus relocation expenses. (That's cheap for today's standards). Relocation expenses would pay for my anticipated move once you run me out of town.

Saunders was the head coach of the Chargers in 87 and 88. They went 8-7 and 6-10.

In 1987 they lost SIX GAMES IN A ROW to end the season. The 1988 team had a 2-8 stretch that included a six game losing streak.

I don't know if I want a head coach that has the ability to lose control of his team like that....
