Keenan McCardell has finally gotten his wish.

FOXSports.com has learned that San Diego coach Marty Schottenheimer has told his staff that the Chargers have reached an agreement with the Buccaneers on a trade for the disgruntled wide receiver.

Tampa Bay will receive the Chargers' third- and sixth-round picks in the upcoming draft in exchange for McCardell.

This past weekend, Bucs general manager Bruce Allen told FOX NFL Sunday that he would make calls Monday and Tuesday to see if trading McCardell could upgrade the Bucs' roster

He added that the team was filing a grievance to get back some of McCardell's signing bonus, and even if Tampa Bay traded the receiver the team would continue to pursue the grievance.

The Chargers suffered a blow to their offense when receiver Reche Caldwell was injured this past Sunday against Atlanta. And by trading for the Pro Bowler McCardell, it's clear that San Diego feels it can compete this year.

It's a pretty good deal for both teams. SD is still in playoff contention and Keenan can help them for two years. The Bucs need to rebuild and amass draft picks.

As poorly as the Chiefs recents drafts have been, I'm glad they didn't give up a 3rd & a 6th for McCardell. I don't even think the Chiefs will have a 3rd to give because of the Welbourne trade. In addition, history hasn't been kind to players that have missed a significant portion of the season and training camp.

Hopefully, we'll have someone like Scott Pioli running this team next year. The Patriots seem to make great use of the draft, unlike Vermiel & Peterson...

That said.....Sandy Eggo has a group of very young WRs who probably could use some veteran leadership........Too bad this one is a malcontent.

He'll probably help them a little. The Chiefs already have our 30something posession WR in Morton, and somewhat in Kennison.

TAMPA - The Bucs have traded holdout receiver Keenan McCardell to San Diego for third- and sixth-round draft choices in 2005, The Tampa Tribune has learned.

McCardell, with two years left on a four-year, $10-million contract, has been a holdout since the start of training camp while requesting a renegotiation for more money.

McCardell helped the Bucs to a Super Bowl championship in 2002, catching 61 passes for 670 yards and a team-leading six touchdowns. He became the No. 1 receiver last year, totaling 84 receptions for 1,174 yards and a career-high eight scores. He made his second career Pro Bowl in 2003.

Though the Bucs have been in dire need of healthy wideouts after injuries to Joe Jurevicius and Joey Galloway, they have refused to talk about a contract renegotiation with the 34-year-old veteran of 12 NFL seasons.

The Chargers could also use his services, having lost Reche Caldwell to a knee injury.

McCardell will become another in a long line of former Bucs who will play against Tampa Bay this season. The Bucs already faced Warren Sapp (now with Oakland) and John Lynch (Denver). They will host Thomas Jones (Chicago) on Sunday, and they visit McCardell and the Chargers Dec. 12.

They might. Brees is playing very well, and they have Tomlinson. Plus they have a young secondary that is very talented, and a pretty solid LB corp on the defensive side. And, IIRC, they pick up a kicker in the draft who is pretty good.

I'm not saying it is a major reason, but one of the factors in the Chargers making the deal was probably the fact that they will have two first round picks in 2005 and signing every draft pick (within the rookie cap) would be difficult. It'll help them sign guys next year.

We have only given up 3 1st round picks since CP was here. One for Joe Montana, One for Trent Green, and One for Junior and Samie. We gave a 2nd up for Dick Vermeil. For Marty we got 2 3rd round picks.

I wish you wouldn't joke about that. It happened to my great-aunt Cindy. She is the last one still alive in her generation of the family and decided to get a tattoo of her siblings' names on her lower back, just inside the upper panty line. Last year she was puttering around in the kitchen, sweeping up the floor as she microwaved some hot water for her aternoon tea. She backed towards the counter to get at the dust bunnies under the fridge and passed in front of the moicrowave for what could only have been about thirty seconds. Apparently the minerals found in some tattoo inks are very sensitive to microwave radiation and her lower back burst into flames. She immediately tried to leap backwards and to her left into the sink but missed and hit the dish drying rack, falling to the floor. Then she rolled into the dining alcove and pulled the sugar bowl onto herself. The sugar melted and carmelised, forming a layer over the wound and putting out the fire. She was able to get herself to the emergency room where they removed some of the extra flesh under her breasts to do a skin graft and were able to save about half of the original tattoo. Now she dosn't know whether to replace the missing part or not. It was a very traumatic experience for her. The doctors said that she's lucky to have such a saggy butt and that she wears such gigantic panties or this could have been a lot worse.

Really, at this point in the season I don't think McCardell would have done us much good. He's a pretty solid player, but is probably fairly rusty and definitely on the downside of his career. We're all but out of the race and we already have two older veteran receivers who are also on the decline. I believe two years ago was the time to get McCardell. He could have been a key component the past couple of years, but at this point, I think we have the slim chance of doing something this year or a better chance next year. I'm more disappointed about missing out on Bryant.

SAN DIEGO - Looking to fill a void at wide receiver, the San Diego Chargers on Tuesday signed veteran Bobby Shaw.

Terms were not disclosed.

Shaw, 29, started the season with the Buffalo Bills and played in four games before being released on October 12. He had five catches for 59 yards.

The signing of Shaw could fill a hole if wide receiver Reche Caldwell is sidelined for an extended period. Caldwell underwent an MRI Monday for a right knee injury that he suffered early in Sunday's 21-20 loss at Atlanta.

Shaw also has played for Pittsburgh and Jacksonville and has 197 catches for 2,784 yards and 14 touchdowns in 81 games.

The Chargers on Tuesday also placed rookie defensive end Dave Ball on injured reserve with a toe injury. Ball had three tackles in six games.
