I know you probably already know this but if anyone who really loves coffee doesn't it will have been worth posting. I have not been a real big coffee guy in the past, maybe a 2 cups a week kind a guy. Well all that changed recently when lil momma got a job training to run a Starbucks. She brought home one these French Presses and said that when she had the exact same coffee through a drip machine and then with one of these there was no comparison, they didn't even taste the same. The coffee made in the French press was much bolder with the oils of the coffee floating on top. The coffee is also much stronger when made like this with a higher caffein content. This works for me as I only want one real good cup in the morning at work. You need a coffee grinder too with these as the beans have to be ground coarse. Low and behold the best coffee I have ever had. Much better than what they serve you at Starbucks and even better than Pete's which is saying something. Here are a few if anyone is interested.

They are even easier to use that a drip machine and cheaper.

If you have a 'pause and serve' coffe maker, you can leave the pot off its base and the coffee will steep in the upper basket in much the same way. You just gotta pay attention and not let it overflow.

When it comes to warm beverages the Brits have us beat hands down. When they want coffee they use a press. to get hot water for their coffee or tea they use these little electric hotplate/teapot things that go from cold to boiling water in no time at all. It's so much faster than putting one of our teapots on a stove that it's amazing.

Yea, but look what it does to their teeth.

Already own one. Once you have coffee through one of them nothing else compares.

A good analogy would be drinking Coors Light vs. Troegs Dead Guy Ale.

I hate mornings when I'm running late and have to drink the swill from the gas station.

Less bitter, I'm not sure. It's much bolder and has much more debth of flavor though so I really haven't noticed, I guess that's a good thing. People who like French Roast or Italian roast, the big bold types of coffee will love this. lil momma says it makes all coffee's tase better because it catches a lot more of the oils from the bean but I wouldn't know as I only drink the big, bold smokey coffee's

I have been meaning to get a press for a while. Id prefer not to pay the starbucks inflated price. Do places like wal-mart carry them?

Also another tip is to use a burr style grinder as opposed to the blade ones. They are a little more expensive but the grind is much more constant and it seems to bring out the flavor better. Plus they are easier to use.

I've never understood the allure of coffee. Yeah, it smells great, but it tastes like something that leaks from underneath a car.

French Presses (Congress calls them "Freedom Presses") are the bomb....you'll never go back to regular coffee

You can actually taste the difference in different beans....kind of like getting good speakers, all of the sudden your music is more interesting, you didn't even know what you were missing

Nobody can make a cup of coffee like the Dutch.

A Senseo coffeemaker is about as close as you can get to a perfect cup of coffee here in the U.S.

at Coffee Shops...but they're more expensive

try Walmart or a Kitchen shop....or online, lots of options:

lots of prices (http://www.bizrate.com/buy/products__att278348--267612-,cat_id--13050802.html)

you'll pay between 15-20 bucks for a glass/plastic set...they have metal/glass sets for more $$$...they look cool, but it doesn't affect the flavor....my only advice is to not get one with a cork base- get plastic or metal, the cork will eventually rot/crumble (I've owned several)

If you just want one really good cup of coffee this is the way to go. Grind the beans, boil some water, steep for 4-5 minutes....ahhhhhh......

Bodum Santos Vacuum Coffee Maker

No other coffee maker has fascinated passionate coffee drinkers like the Santos. A unique physical process with the ideal balance between the 94° Celsius water and just the right brewing time, extracting the finest aroma from all types of coffee. Water is heated in the bottom compartment. As the pressure builds, the water rises to the top and mixes with the coffee. When the heat is removed, the delicious coffee is pulled back down by the vacuum in the bottom chamber. The process is fascinating to watch, and a conversation piece when entertaining. But the real treat is the full bodied flavor similar to French press, but without the heavy sediment and grinds in your coffee.

Nice move, let me know what you think. Remember to grind your beans coarse you will get less sediment.
