My wife wants to get me some Poker Chips for Christmas... so I have been looking around for a good deal ...

Where did you get your chips? Do you have any idea where I can get a REAL good pair for the cheap cheap? Not necessarily Cheap, but a good deal on a good set?

Ive searched ebay, but wife is kinda ebaytarded... so an online store would probably be best...

Also, which chips would you recommend?

thanks for your help

I got my chips from a dealer on E-bay. They weren't the cheapest, but the print quality is outstanding. There is a definate difference. Two sets of the "same" chips form different sellers can be very different in the quality of the design. Unfortunately, Ebay is the only place to find these chips at a competitive price. Online retailers all seem to be over-priced.

I got mine from here: http://stores.ebay.com/Vegas-Supplies-and-Gifts
Make sure and get 11.5 gram, clay.

Here's a pic showing the difference in print quality. The one on the right is my higher quality one, the one on the left is an "identical" chip from someone else's set that got mixed with mine. Despite the poor quality of the photo, you can still see the difference in the white dots. Mine are perfectly round and bright white, while the other is off-shaped with color bleeding.

I've bought two sets recently on ebay. Both of them from a company named Spinetti's out of Las Vegas. They do have a website you can order direct from but you will pay more. I've paid $40 and $46 for a 500 chip set that they advertise on their site for $69.95. I had a good experience with them. Prompt shipping and got what I ordered.

Here are all of their current auctions:

if you're a costco member, they have this set that is pretty solid: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?prodid=11007759&whse=&topnav=&cat=

at the local KC area costco stores they had a 500 chip set that was cheaper.

By the way, be prepared to be kicked in the nuts on shipping. I originally thought I was getting gouged when I saw the S&H charge, but once you feel how heavy the set is you'll understand.

I only paid $19.75 for shipping which really isn't too bad considering the set weighs 18 pounds. Some sellers charge up to $40 for shipping so be sure to check that part out before bidding.

EDIT: I see now that seller has raised their shipping to $21.75. Still cheaper than most on Ebay.

I'm assuming since they don't list their prices on the site, they aren't cheap. But yeah, that'd be cool to have real clay chips.

I don't get this whole poker chip thingy. Are you guys playing with money or just pretending? And if you are playing with money, why not just use the money?

because if only have a twenty dollar bill, what you gonna just bet that ?

You have a buyin of say $20... and everyone gets 1500$ in chips... it makes it a helluva lot more interesting.

Call me crazy but I would think change is easier and cheaper than paying for molded and painted dirt. JMHO.

#1 You aren't a pimp if you only bring $20 to the table.

#2 Who wants to look like a pimp?

I'm starting to realize that the chips don't really have any significance at the table other than the novelty of having them.

Saggy... you're right... they're just novelty... but, what's wrong with that? I like to wear a jersey to the game instead of a Chiefs t-shirt. Same thing. If I can afford it, and I like it... why not?

I don't disagree with that one bit. Nothing wrong with the novelty of it. Hell I buy alot of crap I don't need, and on some occassions things I don't realy want. Just the novelty to have whatever it may be. I just don't see how chips can make the game more interesting.

If he was an analytical he would realize that he will make the $70 it would cost for the poker chips many more times in his life time and accept that a serious poker player may enjoy the feel of the poker chips, adding more weight to the money hes placing on the table. An analytical would also realize that money is just paper and has no backing whatsoever and is therefore worthless. Just my perspective.

Money, just paper. Damn! WTF have I been working for a paycheck for? Fug it, I'm printing my own from now on. Say, anyone wanna play some highstakes poker? (chips not neccessary)

The reason we use chips is that it throws off the lightweights at the table. They're happy to throw in, "What is it? Two blues and a green to me?," when they wouldn't dare dig into their wallets and give me $10 American for the crap their holding.

Taco John

We use chips because we play tournament style... Plus because we're not gambling to make any money. We're gambling to hang out with the fellas away from the hens for a night. We'll set a $5 or $10 buy in for chips, and then play until the last man has the chips... We usually get at least 3 different tourneys done in a night. Of course, the last game of the night someone inevitably suggests a larger buy in.

But mostly, the chips are just because it's fun.
