My brother of 39 years died in his sleep early this morning from an apparent heart attack. It came as a total shock to us all. He was a great brother, a loyal Chiefs fan and a father of 4 great kids.
If you're the believing kind, please say an extra prayer for my brother's kids (Amanda, Chris, Christine, Zach), his wife (Tammi) my mom (Beverly) and dad (Larry).

Wow. That's shocking. I don't know how to properly comfort you, but you do have my sympathies.
I'm doing as well as can be expected. It's just so shocking as you said. I'm definitely going to miss him, but I'm concerned about the rest of the family. The youngest, Zach at nine, doesn't seem to be grasping what is happening or he's in denial. My mother was having trouble catching her breath all day and won't see a doctor herself. The other kids have just had a really tough life and it's hitting them hard.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

What Pitt Gorilla said. This is probably the worst news I've heard for a couple months.

You, your brother's family, your family, and eveyone else who knew this great man are in my prayers. It's always more difficult to see someone so young go before us with things left undone.

Don't worry. God will take care of your brother and his family. They are in good hands.

Ruk,

As hard as it is, try to take this one day at a time. It is OK that Zach is not grasping things yet. It is going to take a long time for the shock and numbness to wear off. As much as I hate to tell you this, I feel it is important. It will be 4 to 6 months on average for the full gravity of what has happened to be felt. Everyone in your family needs to take their own time to deal with this loss in their own way. Unfortunately, their is no time line for Grief. There is no wrong or right way to approach it. Some in your family will accept the loss quicker than others. But that does not mean that those who take years to 'recover' are handeling it improperly. Grief is a roller coaster that sometimes can take years to get under 'control' (Trust me, I know)
The best that I can offer you and your family is that everyone needs to be supportive of each others Grief and don't try to 'get over' this loss too quickly. Your brother has made an impact on many people's lives and each will handle the loss in a different way. Patience, acceptance and faith are pivotal in this terrible time. I wish you and your family the greatest strength possible in your time of despair.

May God be with you and yours,

Big K

Reading these posts reminds me of what a great community we have built here on this site. It may be a lot of fun to argue about sports and even politics but at times like this we are reminded of what is truely important.

Best of luck with this and know that any help you need, you have somewhere to turn for support. Be sure to pass along these good wishes to your sister in law and mother and the kids. It may help them to know just how much love and caring there is out here.

I'm so sorry for your loss and for your brothers family. I too lost a brother Marc way to early. He was 42 years old and also died of a heart attack. This brings back such sad memories for me. He was my hunting buddy. I'm sorry for your mom. No parent should have to experience the death of a child. It just isn't supposed to happen that way. We lost my brother 7 years ago. I still have dreams about him and in my dreams he's the same old Marc. I love having those dreams. I will say a prayer for you and your family tonight before I go to sleep. I pray that when the pain lessens you too will have some dreams of your brother. I'm so, so sorry for you and your family.

Almighty God, through the death of your Son on the cross, you have overcome death for us. Through his burial and resurrection from the dead you have made the grave a holy place and restored us to eternal life. We pray for those who died believing in Jesus and are buried with him in the hope of rising again. God of the living and the dead, may those who faithfully believed in you on earth praise you for ever in the joy of heaven. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
