Anyone else surprised with the way he's playing?

33 catches for 453 yards for a 13.7 YPC.

He may catch 80 this season. When was the last time we had a WR with that many receptions?

Rison had like 77 in '97...

I'm surprised. I was ready to run the guy out at the begining of the year. I wonder what would have happend if Bo wouldn't have gotten hurt. Would Morton still be sidelined with his phantom injury? I do have to give him props though, he's actually catching more than he's dropping this year.

I've bashed Morton as much as anyone, but he has been playing well.

What I'v been really impressed with is his blocking. Whereas Kennison usually whiffs on his blocks, Johnny has done an outstanding job of helping Priest get extra yards. Heck, I even saw Chirs Horn get some outstanding blocks downfield yesterday.

I have bashed him mercilessly, but he has turned it around this year. Morton is playing like a legit #1 WR. Nice to see it; and man, does it add a new, deadly dimension to this offense :thumb:

I say he is finally earning his pay! He might not be a bust after all.

The most surprising thing to me is the lack of drops he has had this season which seemed to be the problem with his production previsouly.

Instead of dropping passes he is making incredible diving and jumping over the head catches.

What the hell got into him this year?

Simple, contract year. He is a motivated veteran.

He has always been a damn good #2 or #3 receiver with the Lions. He was a playmaker along with Herman Moore up there. He just had a shitty couple of games last year, with key drops.

I thought he was signed through 2008?

Is there some sort of production clause pertaining to the last 4 years of his contract that I don't know about?

Morton is finally playing like the WR I expected him to be 3 years ago. Too bad it has taken so long for him to do so.

I have consistently bashed Morton also. Even prior to this game, I couldn't have cared less about him. But after he made that good effort on the overthrown ball from Green (2nd pass of the day) I was happy with him. His lack of guts to go for imperfectly thrown balls was what was really bugging me. He seems to be FIRED up now though, and that's all I can ask.

Long may it last. If he plays this well the rest of the year, and we make the playoffs (big ifs) he'll no longer be a bust. JMO.

I agree, he has been willing to put his body on the line making him a very big weapon lately.

This is one of the reasons our offense is having success again, teams can't take their best DB and cover Tony G. or pull another DB for double coverage on Tony opening up the passing game.

Whereas Kennison usually whiffs on his blocks

Like the one on the long Priest RAC that would have sprung him for a TD.

Johnny has really turned it on this year. But he looks too much like Leon.

He only plays like this when his team has a losing record. Once the Chiefs break .500, he'll revert back to his normal ways.

Don't worry, with Holmes in the backfield and Gonzo lining up at tight end he won't get many chances to do the worm unless he breaks a long one.

My bad............

Johnnie Morton, the free-agent receiver who spent eight seasons with Detroit, signed a seven-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday. The contract was worth $25.7 million, the Detroit Free Press reported.

That posted March 2002

He needs to lose "The Worm". That is absolutely the dumbest celebration since the Mile High Salute.

Exactly what I was going to say. If he keeps it up, I'll take back most of the bad things I said about the guy.

Didnt Derrick Alexander have a big year back in like 1999 or 2000?? There was a one dude, who had all the talent in the world and a knack for the big play, which DV could have used in this offense, but had a 2 cent head.....too bad...

Skills? To do that ignorant shit? Any fifth grader can do that. What are you smoking? Can I have some?

Well,

You notice it too Morton awhile to become productive in Detroit. Maybe the guy doesn't pick up a new system very quickly and it takes time for him to adjust?

Whatever, he has improved every year he has been here. This year, he's doing well and more importantly is making tough catches.

Yeah I agree...its terrible. That arm roll thing Culpepper does is pretty lame too. Tough call between that and "the worm" as being the lamest for current players.

WTF are you smoking Old Man?? You are clearly too old to know what break dancing is and the difficulty of it. Seriously you think it's easy to do a worm? Naive old man... you try doing it...

Like most others here, I hammered on him like a nail. He's playing better now than he has since he got here.
As far as "the worm",,,,,,,,,I'm amazed the trainers didn't run out and try to grab his tongue.
Try being a PRO,,,,,,not a WORM.

I don't care much for the worm. But if Johnny continues to play well, he can do anything he wants for all I care. (As long as it doesn't cost us 15 yards)

Rison was 72 for 1092 in 1997

Because that means he scored a TD. Duh.

Morton has played very well since recovering from his injury. Fighting for the ball, getting separation and pulling down some critical catches. And if you pay attention on the longer runs, he is blocking downfield.

I am quite pleased with him this season.
