Franchise your azz and drop some joints in Denver!

I don’t care which one of you comes to Denver, but I want some authentic KC BBQ!

Gates & Sons- you only have like a hundred joints in KC- move one to Denver, dammit! I don’t care much for your BBQ in relation to the others in KC, but you’re like the Wal-Mart of BBQ joints- move one here- it’s better than anything in Denver.

Zarda- get a joint in Denver!

Smokestack- What are you waiting for? I want some of your burnt ends in Denver!

Arthur Bryant’s- puhhhhhlllleeeeeeeeze! Build a joint in Denver- I want some of those towering, mouth-watering sandwiches.

Anybody…I don’t care which KC BBQ joint moves a joint out here, but it would make a lot of KC transplants like myself SMILE

You could order some Zarda's or Jackstack over the internet.

It's only like $60 a slab. :D

Screw dat....

The last time we went back to KC over the summer we drove over to Zarda for lunch. We could smell the wonderful aroma of BBQ in the air from a mile away. It was incredible- much like the smell of the ocean from a few miles away if you haven't been to the ocean in awhile.

I want the black girls yelling at me, and to be able to smell that joint from a mile away....

If you're moving KC barbecue to Denver, I demand that Houston move some barbecue to Omaha. I've had about enough of this overly-sweetened KC style crap.

You sir, have thrown down the BBQ Gauntlet. You live in Omaha. The only signature food you have is an ear of corn, which is real damn hard to prepare:

1) Get a pot
2) Make a fire
3) throw water in the pot
4) wait till water boils
5) put corn in water
6) wait fifteen minutes
7) eat the corn.

And calling our BBQ CRAP should get you banned! So as King Carl would say:
STFU and STFD!!!

Bite my long end. And I Know What I'm Talkin' Bout, Willis!!!

Me thinks he has only had KC Masterpiece, which, while good on occasion, is still way down the KC BBQ pecking order. I can't ever remember any Gates, Bryants, or Zarda being sweet...

Zarda bold is the shizzy, yo :D
But DAMN it can be hot at times (differs from batch to batch)

Zarda's sucks ass.

Of course, I'm a big fan of burnt ends, so LC's is my choice.

Okay ... that may be taken the wrong way ...

We could use some of that down in Florida, too. I've eaten at BBQ places only about 3-4 times here in the past 5 years here because they have no clue how to make BBQ. The locals think this craphole chain place called Sonny's is actually good. This place wouldn't last a month in KC. The worst BBQ restaurant in KC could move down here and blow the rest of the ones down here out of the water.

You must be going to the wrong Zarda's! Try the one at 135th & Metcalf.... always good there.

I've been to the one in Blue Springs and I'm just not all that impressed with their food or sauce. Same thing with Bryants -- I think it's overrated.

For a sandwich, I go to Gates.
For burnt ends, LCs.
For ribs ... well, I stay home. My wife makes the most incredible ribs I've ever had.

Really? You've got to be one of the luckiest guys- who in the world has a WIFE that makes the most incredible ribs besides you?

The original Bryant's in the ghetto is damn good... the other one I've been to, at the Casino (whichever one it's at) was okay, but not nearly as good.

I'm not big on the Zarda's in Lenexa (off I-35)... must be the same in Blue Springs. If you're ever on the S side of JoCo, just over State Line, try the 135th & Metcalf Zarda's.... good stuff, mang! (FWIW I usually get the burnt ends there... no complaints here!!)

I wish there was an LC's a bit closer to where I live. I have to drive to Lenexa... takes 20 minutes. By the time I get home I have to nuke it :(

She also ...
a.) Bought me GTA: San Andreas this weekend (I was gonna wait until my Xmas bonus)
2.) Came in the room during the Denver/Cinci game in time to see their Dlineman getting carted off the field. Her comment: "What happened? Did a Denver player cheap shot yet another guy?"

Yes ... I'm one lucky SOB. :D

As tempting as that is, being that close to so many Donkey fans would probably give me a rash ...

I live in Omaha because 4 months ago, Uncle Sam told my wife that that's where she could best help protect the nation.... not because I'm from here. Prior to moving here, I lived in College Station, which is an hour or so north of Houston.

I prefer Texas barbecue because, yes, I find most KC style stuff to be too sweet. Even the stuff that's spicy is still too damned sweet. That goes for KC "style" barbecue that I have had both in Kansas City (visited for 2 weeks back in 98) and elsewhere. I'll still eat it, of course, as some Q is better than no Q but it certainly isn't my favorite.

I like a bit of FIRE in my Q... and that's the way they make it down in Texas.

They have a Rudy's in college station dont they? I really love that places sauce and they have pretty good brisket. Really heavy on the pepper.

I can't decide which is worse...Texas vinegar masquerading as BBQ, or the stringy wild game stuff they call beef...

Thats about the opposite of most of the Texas places i have been too. All of em had tomato based sauces and the brisket is typically too fatty and greasy for my tastes. However good brisket can be found if you look enough.

It depends on where you're at in Texas when it comes to the sauces. And it also depends on whether or not they're serving MIDWESTERN beef. :thumb:

BTW, I was joking about Texas Q. I like think, sweet sauce, I like mustard-based sauces, I like Jamaican jerk-style Q, whatever. I like to experiment.

When it comes to BBQ, I'm EOE...

Yeah, I used to go to Rudy's every now and again, but I preferred C&J's. Rudy's Sause is good but their Sissy Sause (my best friend's wife doesn't like hot stuff) is just horrible.

htismaque - I'm pretty much EOE as well. Like I said, some Q is always better than no Q.

Again, most of what is sold to the nation (and to unsuspecting tourists) is not technically KC BBQ. Especially the 'better' locations for true KC BBQ are actually in places very few tourists (or most locals after 6pm) would want to visit. (I'm lucky enough I've got Perry Fosters a few blocks away... east of troost flavor while safely tucked away in Warrensburg)

75% of the BBQ in Arrowhead Stadium is tastier and spicer than the 'KC Style' that has been engrained in the national psyche.

To be honest, my least favorite BBQ place in KC is KC Masterpiece, but that is the only place out of town family and friends want to eat.

I've eaten there before. Good pork, and my brother loves the ribs, but it's a national chain, so don't plan on something "extraordinary."

When I get down to KC, I schedule all of my stuff I have to get done around BBQ. It's a terrible habit, but jeez, that stuff is almost life changing.

Gates, Fiorellas and Bryants are by far my favorites I've had so far, and Masterpiece is overrated.

Have you tried Brother's BBQ yet? The owners traveled all over, and they've done a good job of mimicing various regional tastes, including KC. Still need work on their beans, though.

When you go to the original location or the one on 6th Ave, you can see bottles of sauce from all the restaurants they went to, including SmokeStack and AB's.

Yes, I have!

Brother's is not bad and they are one of the reasons I was inspired to compose this thread.

But, I would give anything to see a Smokestack, a Zarda, a Hayward's, an LC's around the corner...life would be dreamy then.
