Arafat is not dead. These are malicious rumours spread by infidel westerners intent on defaming the Palestinian people.

Arafat is merely receiving a makeover including the shaving of Ashley Simpson's name into his stubble. May Allah be praised!

MSN says that he's still in a coma. However, just to keep the rules clear, the pool winner will be the person whose time is closest to the time of death that is stated in the first formal death announcement by whatever terrorists are responsible for his press releases.

That would be impossible since Everyone keeps saying he isn't dead. It's just a feeling on my part because I think they are buying time to find a leader overthere before it's announced.

Remember, the statement that he was dead was by a head of state. They usually have very good info.

If a leadership vaccume (sp?) is present it could cause some extreme turmoil in the Palistinian camp.

Better to keep the people in the dark until they have a plan of action.

Arafat on life support, U.S. officials say
Palestinians say leader in reversible coma
Friday, November 5, 2004 Posted: 11:08 AM EST (1608 GMT)

PARIS, France (CNN) -- Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat remained in a coma Friday at a French military hospital as conflicting reports about the Palestinian leader's health continued to emerge.

U.S. officials contend the ailing 75-year-old is near death. Palestinian spokespeople say he is in a reversible coma, deliberately induced by doctors in order to perform a biopsy.

Muslim custom requires burial within 24 hours of death. Two U.S. administration officials have said machines were keeping Arafat alive until his family and officials from France, Israel and Egypt could reach a decision about a burial site.

"No one thinks he'll survive," a senior State Department official said.

Ending life support and issuing an official declaration of Arafat's death would not be done until burial negotiations are complete, the two officials said, and they expect that to happen within 24 to 48 hours.

"This is a very sensitive matter," one official said, adding, "We are running out of time."

But Palestinian chief negotiator Saed Erakat said reports of Arafat being on life support systems were baseless. And he denied doctors were keeping Arafat alive while officials and family members made burial decisions

Leila Shahid, the Palestine Liberation Organization representative in Paris, said Arafat was in a coma but that it was "reversible." During an interview on French Radio Friday morning, Shahid denied reports that Arafat is brain dead.

Shahid said doctors induced the coma Wednesday afternoon to perform a biopsy after Arafat's condition worsened.

A longtime friend of Arafat, Munib Masri of Nablus, visited him Friday afternoon and said Arafat's condition was not as dire as earlier reports described. Masri said Arafat's recovery seemed possible.

Arafat's family always has wanted him buried in Jerusalem but Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has ruled out that possibility.

French, Israeli and Egyptian officials, who have been in contact with Arafat's family, said there have been discussions about burying Arafat in Egypt.

Erakat said Friday that negotiations were not occurring, but he also said, "We hope we don't need to engage in such negotiations over this issue. I hope Israelis would show sensitivity."

A senior Israeli official would neither confirm nor deny reports that the negotiations are taking place over where to bury Arafat.

"This is a sensitive issue and we will not discuss it until an official statement is released," the official said.

The White House and other departments are in communication with French officials about Arafat's status and are receiving constant updates, according to the officials, who are familiar with talks with the Palestinian Authority president's wife and his inner circle.

With the news of Arafat's health deteriorating, the Israeli military has been placed on high alert, and Palestinian security forces are reviewing their plans to keep Palestinian territories calm in the event of Arafat's death.

Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qorei and former premier Mahmoud Abbas, the acting as head of the Palestinian Liberation Organization's executive committee, are scheduled to travel to Gaza on Friday to meet with members of the militant groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

The Palestinian Authority's basic law calls for its parliament speaker to serve as acting president for 60 days until an election.

During Arafat's absence, Qorei, deputy head of the National Security Council, has been serving as acting head of the security committee, and Abbas, secretary general of the executive committee of the PLO, is acting chairman of the PLO.

Erakat and other Palestinian officials have denied that any plan is made for a post-Arafat era, but have also said Palestinian institutions will retain stability.

People are sedated, or put under anesthesia for a biopsy... I guess one could call it a reversible coma, but it sounds more like he could not be brought off the ventilator after the procedure (for whatever reason); certainly not a good prognostic sign.

Hmm, am I off? According to msn.com, Arafat died at 3:30 a.m. on November 11th in Paris, according to the article below. That would translate into 8:30 p.m. on November 10th in the central time zone.

6 Iron guessed Nov 11th at 3:05 am CST, which is 6 hours and 35 minutes off. It seems like he's the winner to me. Or am I off somewhere in my time conversions?

Arafat died at 3:30 a.m. in a French military hospital. His last days were as murky and dramatic as his life. Arafat was flown to France on Oct. 29 after nearly three years of being penned in his West Bank headquarters by Israeli tanks.

RAMALLAH, West Bank - Yasser Arafat, the guerrilla leader turned Nobel Peace Prize winner who forced his people’s plight into the world spotlight, died Thursday at age 75.

Arafat died at 3:30 a.m. in a French military hospital. His last days were as murky and dramatic as his life. Arafat was flown to France on Oct. 29 after nearly three years of being penned in his West Bank headquarters by Israeli tanks.
No, you are right. For some reason, I didn't have Six Iron on my Spreadsheet.

Double rep to Six

Dear Yassar.

You know that thing about the 72 virgins?

I was just kidding.

Why is the French Military playing tribute music to Arafat? I mean really?

So a big controversy between Bwana and 6 Iron results in alot of double repping, and 6 Iron being the winner.

The real question here is -- why does 6 Iron have his rep turned off? :hmmm::)

Ah hell, I just went and gave rep to everyone. Something about the death of a major terrorist; arguably the father of terrorism makes me generous.

Sorry if I missed anyone.
