Its 1998 all over again. Who should go? Carl or Marty?? Personally, in retrospect, it was the right thing for Marty to leave at the time. His time in KC had come and gone.....I just wish that Carl had left with him at the time....

He can stay as the President/CEO, but we need a GM who is going to concentrate on finding, getting, and signing players. Not a guy whose very label is contradictory to furthering the roster of his team.

Good Point! I like this idea actually.....we need a better talent evaluator and personal specialist.

Schottenhiemer needed to move on. The majority of fans had soured on him and Curt... I regret the animosity that existed before he left. I never bought into all that Tanner's BS.

That was one heck of a rumor back then. Everyone had a different version of it. I heard everything from Marty fathering an illegitimate kid with a waitress to him screwing around with Greg Hill's girlfriend.

Never heard the one about Greg Hill's girlfriend.
It amazes me that that kind of garbage takes hold. A decade's worth of frustration rained down... too bad Marty had to leave under those circumstances. The folks that perpetuated that baloney should be embarrassed. Even without the low-class treatment Marty & Co. were on their way out of town.

I always figured that had to be a bunch of crap. Supposedly, everyone had a friend who had seen him all over town with this waitress. Marty may have made a few boneheaded calls in clutch games, but no way was he that dumb that he would be taking a waitress out in public all over KC when everyone knows who he is. Not to mention it was all supposedly happening during football season when he has no free time.

Unquestionably both should have went.

Well, I was around back then and I remember the rumors with the waitress. It was the chili joint across the street from what was then Sportsnutz. All the coaches met there for lunch. Although I was on the old Star Board with some of these guys, I was diametrically opposed to their anti Marty stance. So I went to the PigPen rather than argue with them. Hence my May 2001 start date on this board vs their Aug 2000. It will be interesting to see what happens on this board if Marty kicks our ass in the upcoming meetings.

I agree. It was time for Marty to move on. The gleem was gone. The players were not buying. King Carl should have moved on too. What impact draft pick has he brought in to help since Marty left? Very poor drafting.

Both should have went? You must be a MUron. At KU they taught us it was "both should have gone". But, I don't expect much from MUrons.

Yes it will.
Was all THAT before Chiefs Planet? If so too bad. I remember an overwhelming amount of online folks pumping that rumor hard... not even willing to base it on fact. It was a burning house. If you had the archives you could poll those idiots to see if their opinions have changed.
6-3 and tied for the division lead. I wasn't sure Marty was going to get them headed in the right direction. It must be year 3.

It's just so hard to believe that one of the most recognized faces in town would escourt a "girlfriend" around town. but there were so many rumors about it...makes you wonder...

Gleem? I'll bet you can't find that word in the dictionary. You anti Marty people slay me with your ignorance.

Granted you are correct but no I am not an MU grad. Then again I do not get hung up on grammar on a BB.

Course if I was a grammar nazi I probably would point out you should have said:

At KU they taught us it should be "both should have gone".

I'm not sure but I think the Marty-waitress stuff was about the same time the old Star Board was imploding. I remember arguing with some of these guys about Marty on the old board and that is why I went to the Pig Pen instead of here. I get along with them now. I guess they got tired of arguing with an opinionated old man.

Well, if you want to get technical, Nazi should have been capitalized. So you failed to graduate? Sorry to hear that. :p

David.

If you really want to get technical, "Sorry to hear that." should begin with an "I'm".

Check your dictionary. Nazi is a proper noun and can not be used as an adjective. It is the name of a person, place or thing.

Carl's biggest mistake was hiring Gunther as a head coach to replace Marty and keep the old regime intact. Of course Carl just 3 years later would realize the error of his ways and hired Vermeil to come in a clean up the mess. love him or hate him, you have to admit, Vermeil did an outstanding job of cleaning up this organization from the slop left over from Marty/Gunther regimes. Vermeil doesnt seem to know crap about defense, but he has rarely made a mistake on the offensive side of the ball. Examples: Al Saunders/Trent Green/Priest Holmes/Dante Hall/Weigmann/Waters/Roaf/Kennison....the list goes on and on......you have to give him credit for that stuff.

Yep, just like Gun and Marty put together great defenses and rarely missed on player development on the defensive side of the ball. DV comes in and does the same on the offensive side of the ball. Same results. Home field advantage. First round playoff lost in Arrowhead.

Screw this.
Instead, why don't we go back to '88 and ask who should have been hired then, rather than either Carl or Marty?
