View Full Version : Anyone hear DV's press conference, or clips?

I happened to be in the van when it came on and caught most of it live.
When DV first started, I thought he sounded VERY down, sad disrought, something. Just his speech pattern and tone of voice.
He talked about Priest first, naturally. Then he came to Barber. He said Barber was out, maybe "PERMANENTLY". He spit out PERMANENTLY without hesitation or stumbling for words.
By the end, or at least as much as I heard, he sounded like the DV we're used to hearing.
I realize he doesn't have much to sound "upbeat" about, but he really sounded bummed out.
I think maybe Barber is "done" done.
Anybody else think he sounded odd today?

I heard it too. I'm thinking he meant "done for the season"...he sounded disgusted about the (possibly) season-ending injury--not the player, IMO...

He sounded weary, Mr. sparky, and, for that, I do not blame him. He's an old coach and he's all cried out.

The Barber injury may well be career ending. He's seeing a specialist in Birmingham - a well known location for career ends.

They're preparing to play w/o Priest, but DV says that Priest has surprised them before. (My personal hope is that the DO NOT allow him to play Sunday.)

Blaylock is practicing this week.

LJ is consulting with the Pampers folks in an effort to select specialized undergarments that will not impede his flashing speed.

Indicated that the problem on D is too much focus on the run to the detriment of attention to the pass D. Also claimed that scheme problems affecting the coordination among and between the back 7 - not talent - is to blame. Says the Dline is playing well and that the run D is improved because they've focused on that, but that the pass D is not working well due to the afore-mentioned scheme issues.

Says that NO is good on offense and can beat anybody, anytime, so they're taking them seriously. Too bad that no one is taking the Chiefs seriously as well.

Conference lasted a mere 17 minutes or so. Normally, they're around 30. An indicator of his frame of mind.

That's too bad about Barber, but it's not shocking. It looked bad.

I'm glad Blaylock is practicing. (Does anyone else fight the urge to call him "Mookie?")

I watched the game in a local sports bar last Sunday and a Bucs fan, noticing Priest was sidelined, asked me who the backup RB was...distracted as I was at the time, I blurted out "Mookie Blaylock, but he's out this week so Larry Johnson"....

Man, was my face red for awhile....

Sucks for Barber, career ending?? wow

Er I don't think it's career ending, but if Barber does have a bad ACL injury I can see it knocking him out for this year and half of next year I'd imagine... and by missing half of next year he'd miss training camp and still wouldn't be 100%....

Not to be disagreeable, Mr. tk13, yet DV definately said that it could be career ending.

SB is consulting the same surgeon in Birmingham that operated on him while he was a 'skin. Prognosis is not at all good, apparently.

Oh, well I stand corrected... I didn't hear it the press conference, I was knew he was going to see Dr. James Andrews to have that ACL checked out. That doctor knows his stuff....

Where in the conference does it say career ending???.

All dick said was it was a possible season ending.he went to the specialist in Ala. because its the same guy that did work on his other knee, but he did not rule out the possibility of a return this year, although its very doudtful. No one knows yet.they havent heard.

DV quote.

"hes going down there for a total and final evaluation and then will make a decision, but hes definitely out and maybe permanetly out"

to me that means out for the season not for his career.

My apologies, Mr. Big Chief Homer and Mr. tk13. Mr. Big Chief Homer is correct. DV's exact words were "may be permanently out". He did not say "may be career ending".

In my highly depressed state of mind, I defined "permanent" as "always" or "forever".

By "out", I thought he meant "not playing football".

Then, my feeble intellect connected the two concepts: "forever" & "not playing football" and posted this concept inaccurately as "career ending".

Please accept my humble apologies. I misinterpreted DV's statement.

I am very embarrased by this misstep and humbly ask your forgiveness. In future, I will triple check my facts prior to posting on this board and will post only verbatim quotes from this point forward. There is no excuse for my error, any misleading impression was unintentional, and I would now like to be hung by my nuts until I am braindead.

ROFL Don't worry about it, I think the word "permanent" there is kind of vague, we'll see what the final prognosis is. Oh yeah, and we don't usually hang people by their nuts until they are braindead until they screw up a second time.

And how long could that take, anyway...?

The really sad part about our defense is that if they announced any player on the defense had a career ending injury, purely from a loss of talent standpoint, I wouldn't care or be the least bit emotional. With maybe the exception of Ryan Sims...And that wouldn't be due to performance or ability to date but due to the fact I am one of the fools still holding out hope that we will get some kind of return on that extremely heavy investment. Fujita would bring a touch of disappointment but mainly cause he is young and there is a possibility he could continue to improve to a level of good value.

Sad when there isn't a single player that you would hate to see go.

I guess I was just taken back by the word "permenantly". I don't recall the last time I heard an injury referenced like that. Hell, I don't recall ANY time now that I think of it.
I also tend to think of "permenantly" meaning "forever, always".
Time will tell if it was a poor choice of wording by DV or he meant exactly what he said.
Thought I would ask for opinions,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Probably out this year then, i didn't even think his initial injury was that bad, i knew he would be out for while being carted but he shook his fist like he'd be ok, hopefully he will be ok and come back next season.

DV had a press conference that deviated from all the others? Hell, I figured he recorded a "win" press conference and a "loss" press conference in the offseason and just handed out tapes after the game.

DV: Spin, spin, spin, spin, bullshit, bullshit, bullshit, bullshit, cry, lie, spin, spin, bullshit, best fans in the NFL, spin, spin, LJ sucks, spin, bullshit, never wanted to cut Morten, spin, spin, Ryan Sims is playing the best ball I've ever seen, bullshit, lie, Dante isn't getting any returnable kicks, spin, spin, spin, bullshit, bullshit, lie, lie, lie, Trent Green is playing as well, errrr better than he's ever played, spin, spin, spin, pretty deep hole, spin, spin, spin, climb out, spin, spin, spin, lost to a good football team, lie, lie, lie, spin, spin.

Hard to make a good medical prognosis based on a fist pump but I'm one that believe DV meant what he said. "PERMANANTLY" like cooked.

Exactly.

Since when does "permanently" mean "one year"??
