Not much going on tonight. I've been drinking a few Bud Lights, but they're not doing the trick. I hear that ole Absinthe bottle calling...

It's been several months since I broke out the green stuff. I'm thinking of making an absinthe martini. Should I? Anybody want to join me...?

Absinthe martini:

2 parts Absinthe
1 part Gin
1/2 part dry Vermouth
float Grand Marnier

Prepare in the traditional martini way.

First sip coming up: Yikes!

No, not hallucinigenic--just different. Hard to describe. It's like a very warm, very intense feeling. The closest I could come to describing it would be drinking some very good single-malt scotch and smoking hashish concurrently. And whoa!--for those of you scoring at home, it's starting to kick in as I type...

I'll join you with an Old Crow and Pepsi, beer chaser...I live in a Red state so cut me some slack ;-) But I won't post anymore 2nite cause I am in self-imposed exile while drinking. :p :thumb: LOL have fun! :thumb:

That's the traditional absinthe drip. I can't drink it that undiluted tho. Tried it and gagged a f*ckin' maggot...

hehe Absinthe... I knew that stuff was illegal in the states, moved up to Canada and my university has an absinthe pub on campus! it's a whole new world up here :D

Well, I choked down 5 absinthe martinis last night. That finished off one bottle of the green stuff. Still have one bottle of the Czech absinthe left. That's another thing: DON'T order your absinthe from the Czech Republic. Get the Spanish or British stuff instead...

Absinthe is basically a poison that you have to prepare a certain way or it's lethal. Funnily enough, Wormwood(which is used to ferment absinthe I think) is quoated in the Bible as being the downfall of mankind. Chernobyl also translates into Wormwood...I have read somewhere.

Whats wrong with the Czech stuff?

I didn't know it when I bought mine, but the Czech absinthe is well-known for having the most bitter aftertaste of all the commercially-prepared stuff. Apparently the best comes from England and Spain.

I haven't had a problem. I'm assuming they're not interested in people ordering a bottle or 2 for home consumption. Now, if you try to import barrels of absinthe, I'm sure that would make them sit up and take notice...

That's just me. I find it very difficult to sleep more than 3-4 hours at a stretch, no matter what I consume...
