Here are some of the more notable and hopefully pseudo-affordable free agent LB's for 2005. If you could pick one, who would it be, why and who does he replace? (excuse my spelling of their names).

Edgerton Hartwell (Ravens)
Andra Davis (Browns)
Akin Ayodele (Jax)
Kendrall Bell (Pitt.)
Tommy Polley (Rams)
Rocky Calmus (Titans)
Justin Ena (Titans)

but it doesnt make a spit of difference who we get unless we dump most, if not all of the defensive coaches.

Kendrell Bell isn't going anywhere.

Give me Ed Hartwell.

Ed Hartwell.

He's very good in Baltimore and Kendrell Bell is always hurt.

Akin Ayodele

Akin is only 25. Last season he had 115 tackles (89 solo), 1 sack and 2 picks. This season through 9 games he has 57 tackles (47 solo) and 2 sacks. He's 6'2", 241lbs.

I also like Andra Davis (former Gator) if we want to get a MLB. Last season he had 136 tackles (97 solo) and 5 sacks. He's 6'1" 255lbs.

I know that there will be some bigger name free agents available like Ellis/Abraham from the Jets, possibly Fred Smoot and Julian Peterson, but I think the above list of LB's is somewhat realistic as to who the Chiefs might actually pursue.

What's the SF linebacker's name that held, literally, Gonzo in the KC/SF game last year? I believe he broke his leg, but he might be a good choice. I think SF is in cap trouble again.

Honestly, I'd prefer Andra Davis. A monster MLB is what we need.

If we went OLB, Ayodele or Peterson would be my choices...

Hartwell plays inside in a 3-4; nothing special.
Andra Davis is nothing special.
Akin Ayodele is probably the guy I'd most be interested in due to his pass rushing ability.
Kendrell Bell plays inside in a 3-4 defense and is overrated; can't blitz and can't cover, has to come out on 3rd down.
Polley sucks, got beat out by a rookie this year.
Calmus broke his leg.
Ena has never stood out.

I wouldn't want any of these guys.

Akin Ayodele is one of the league's better kept secrets. Stroud and Henderson get all the publicity in the middle of that stingy defense but the Jaguars have two linebackers (Mike Peterson and Akin) that just fly all over the field and create havoc.

Yeah, right.

I want Abraham from the Jets, Smoot from the deadskins, and Porter from the faiders.

Julian Peterson...I believe he is currently their Franchise player...

Julian was in fact thier FP, passed up a big-time multi-year deal and signed the 1 year tender. He severed his Achilles week 1 or 2.

No thanks.

I like Hartwell, he's a solid player.

Hopefully we draft a LB. John Abraham on one side, Allen on the other side....sounds good. Might be a little weak against the run is my only concern.

I'd rather spend all our available money next offseason getting rid of the crap we already have on the team. There are several excellent CB's and LB's available in the draft.

Put Welbourn's butt on the bench so we can hang on to our 3rd round pick, 'cause it is probably going to be pretty high in the 3rd.

Draft defense all the way. LB's and CB's. And a safety or two too.

No way we should do that IMO. Next year is the last year for the window of opportunity with Vermeil and company. I can't see us purguing the roster in Vermeil's final year. We should bring in some FA help, but you don't go into rebuilding mode the 5th and most likley final year of your coaches tenure, you do everything you can to target FAs that you believe will upgrade your team and make a final push.

Don't fool yourself. There is no window of opportunity anymore. This team has no heart and it will win no Super Bowl.

Might as well gut it, starting with Carl Peterson and Dick Vermeil.

We could use a DE no doubt. I still think the 3-4 would be a good thing though too. Saivii at NT, with Allen and Browning at the ends. Dalton backing up Saivii. Maybe Sims and Hicks acking up the end spots.

Fujita and Fox or a draft pick at the OLB's. Two new ILB's. Warfield and and new CB. Wesley and a new safety.

Maybe The MLB from Virginia in the 1st. The MLB from Iowa in the 2nd. Bench Welborn, get our 3rd back, and a CB in the 3rd. A safety in the 4th.

I think Gun has done a pretty good job with our LBs at this point. What I can't believe is how bad our Ss have played. IMO the front 7 is much better and that has clarified things. It's time to address the secondary so after we've stopped the run we can stop the pass.

At first I was thinking no way, give the old man his due and give him one more season.

Now the more I think about it, bring on the new blood!
