I've discovered 2 fairly useful ways to search the Planet even without the search function enabled.
1) Use Google's site specific search feature. Works best with older archived type threads, and not so well with more recent threads.
2) Use the "Showing threads 1 to 25 of 71059, sorted by" feature at the bottom of each forum's front page. It lets you narrow down all the treads by date, etc. Once you've done that, you can even sort by the tread creator's name. This has been most helpful in digging up threads that I started a recently but that have dropped multiple pages back.
