Just when the Chiefs finally get a QB it seems like he doesn't have much time left in this league. Or does he? For a 34-year old he has a very low amount of mileage, but regardless of that, his physical tools should start to erode in a couple of years like any other player, right?

I would say he probably retires with the rest of the older offensive players in a couple years (Roaf, Shields, Richardson, Priest, Morton).

Long enough to make the rest of the NFL teams feel like they've been circumsized by a gang of deranged Sudanese weightlifters on holiday. GO CHIEFS!!!

At what age did Steve Young retire?? Green compares to him as far as when they started to play and when they started putting up big numbers. Of course, Green doesnt have a ring yet...sigh....

Steve played a few years for the Bucs so it's not really the same thing.

Green can play longer since he didn't take the abuse on his bodies during the prime of his life like alot of quarterbacks have.

As long as the O line takes care of him, 5.

But lately he has been getting slapped arround back there. That never EVER happened last year.

Tait, where are you.

yeah. and deberg is/was 44 when he finally retired (I think)

How old was Blanda?

I think he was even older than Deberg. He also punted.

But, he was a R aider, so we hate him.

I think the question is not how long can Green play, the question is "How long with the Chiefs continue to pay his base salary?"

2004 1795000.00
2005 4700000.00
2006 5700000.00
2007 7200000.00
2008 7700000.00
2009 9200000.00

Damn! They surely can't keep him more than a year or so.

I'd say his last year will be 2006, looking at that. We will probably be in rebuilding mode by then and won't be able to afford him.

Judging from the salary situation in post #15, I say it will be exactly as long as either
(a) DV stays in town;
(b) Carl wants to pay him as contracted;
(c) Trent is willing to restructure to create cap room.

Trent's the least of our problems on age.

As long as we can protect him, he can still wing it.

He's never been a big threat to run it anyways.

It wouldn't to start grooming a guy though.

You had to go back to 2004 to find something about which you were correct?
