Instructor arrested for driving drunk on wrong side of highway
FUJIEDA, Shizuoka -- A driving school instructor was arrested on Monday for driving under the influence of alcohol in the wrong direction on a national highway and triggering a traffic accident involving three other vehicles, police said.
Police took Seiki Inaba, 36, into custody for violating the Road Traffic Law after detecting alcohol on his breath.
At around 11:40 p.m. on Sunday, Inaba drove his car on a bypass along Route 1 in Okabe, Shizuoka Prefecture, in the wrong direction for about three kilometers and rammed his vehicle into a truck driven by a 49-year-old man, investigators said.
Two following cars crashed into the truck that had come to a standstill. In the accident, two people were slightly injured.
