Hell I don't know. I know I have a Tacoma...my second because of an accident with the first....and they're the best, most reliable damn things you can drive.

Exactly. If you are looking for long life, that would be the way to go. I have a 1 ton Ford 7.4L Powerstroke 4 door dually right now, but I am going to sell the thing. To darn big and I don't need that much power.

Given the choice between Ford or Chevy it depends what you are goign to use it for. Ford makes a truck you can tak Offroad, Chevy has a better hide as a rule. Just stay the hell away from the Duramax if you go Chevy!

Has Chevy finally figured out how to put a lock on their tailgate?

If I were to buy a new pickup tomorrow, that "feature" alone would be enough to make me switch sides. Christ, it's a f*cking keyhole that disengages the handle. How goddammed hard can it be? Ford figured it out YEARS ago.

I haven't been actively looking. Hence the question mark. My 98 is still just fine (well, other than the missing tailgate).

I know my neighbor's 2004 doesn't have one. Which means even if they are offering it, it still isn't standard... which is just silly.

You should do what I did, have some drunken moron ram into the back of your truck so the tailgate is scratched up and no one would want to steal it.

Interestingly Henery Ford sold his company, Ford, and started a new one called Chevrolet. So in a way they're all Fords.

FWIW I think that Consumer Reports gave the new Fords a bad review it is certainly not one of their Recommended vehicles.

Chevy was a recommended vehicle but did not recieve the highest marks probably about average.

Read consumer reports if you want to buy a washing machine. The F-150 was Motor Trends truck of the year.

Dodge's trucks are actually pretty good now.

Chevy's are worthless the last couple years.

The Tundra isn't really a truck. It just doesn't compete with any of the above 3. Weakest frame. You can physically twist the frame on the Tundra with your bare hands. Weakest engine. Least amount of towing. Least amount of payload. Loses control extremely easy on rough roads. Comes in last place in about every way you can compare them.

The Titan is a great truck. Great performer. Just ugly to me though.

But, if you want the best their is....

Ford F-350 with the 6 liter diesel. Nothing comes close to touching it. Period.

Go drive them all. I have. The differences are pretty significant.

I could be wrong but I don't think Motor Trends takes into account the number of break downs and Fit and finish problems and all the other data Consumer Reports puts into it. I always thought Motor Trends was more of a design, styling and package report.

I could be wrong as I am not real familiar with them except when they leave them laying around the Dr.'s office.

Personally, I'm just happy with my '91 Toyota Extended Cab pickup. 148,000 miles on it and it's probably good for another 200K easy. Good gas mileage, does everything I ask it too.

Only thing it needs is a new radio (those 14 year old speakers are getting a little crackly) and maybe a new paint job.

Hopefully diesel, KCJake.

Well, if you talk’n diesel and plan on using it the best one IMO is Dodge. The Duramax and Power Stroke diesels make more peak torque, but the Cummins makes it’s peak torque at 2000 RPM while the Furd and Cheby make there’s near redline. So with the Dodge you’ve got over 500 lb-ft of torque available just off idle.

Grew up on Ford and drive one now. I think it is mostly what people get used to and feel comfortable with.

I always have driven a ford, until I bought a chevy back in '96. Drove it for about 6 months before I sold it. Ran and drove really good, but it just didn't feel right.

I currently have a '98 F 150 4x4 and absolutely love it, but I am looking to upgrade to a newer model soon with 4 doors.

I'd be interested to know how many people grew up with Ford or Chevy and then switched. And for what reason?

First car was a '78 T-Bird.

Have also owned a '86 Mustang (talk about a POS), a '91 Ranger, a '94 Taurus (SHO engine roxor'd), a '97 Mustang, a '98 F-150 (my first ever brand new car), and a '03 Explorer.

That's it for Fords. Also have a '03 Grand Vitara and have owned a '84 prelude, a '81 Ram B something or other, '84 Century.

The Prelude and Ram were both POSs. Other than the 80s Mustang, every Ford I have ever had was great. The Vitara (50k miles already in less than 18 months) has also been pretty good.

Never owned a Chevy, but with the track record I have with Ford, I will probably never own a Chevy.
