I just now heard the news. :(
I was over at the music store checking out some new cymbals when one of the guy’s in the guitar dept asked me if I heard about dime bag.
The rotten fugger that did it got off easy…..
They should have let him live , then when he was healed put him in a steel room with his Dime’s best friend’s…Zack Wyld, and Cain Robberts.

Local radio station here in Phoenix is planning a DimeBag tribute...

"Larger than life" are perhaps the words that best describe guitar legend
Darrell Abbott - a.k.a. Dimebag Darrell - who was shot and killed onstage
Wednesday night in Columbus, Ohio.

JOIN THE BIG RED RADIO THIS WEEKEND IN REMEMBERING ONE OF THE MOST
INFLUENCIAL GUITAR PLAYERS OF OUR TIME, 'DIMEBAG' DARRELL ABBOTT. OVER
THE YEARS OF GREAT MUSIC HE HAS PERMANTLY PLACED MEMORIES OF TIMES OF
HARDSHIP AND SUCCESS TO US ALL HERE IN THE HALLS OF 98 KUPD AND 1,000'S OF
FANS ACROSS THE VALLEY.

ZIA RECORDS: STARTING FRIDAY AT 5PM CRUISE BY THIS WEEKEND TO OUR FRIENDS
AT ZIA RECORDS ON THUNDERBIRD AND 25TH AVENUE AND SIGN OUR CUSTOM WASHBURN
CARD TO THE BAND, THEIR CREW, MANAGEMENT AND FAMILIES.

The mark that Abbott left on heavy music and its community is indelible.
He was a stellar player, a true character and an unforgettable friend to
many. "He was one of the coolest people I've ever met," said Slipknot's
Corey Taylor. "The guy just loved to laugh and he loved to make you laugh.
And he loved to make you do something that you would never do in a million
years. He was a guy that lived in the moment. His philosophy was, 'Let's
do something that is gonna make us remember tonight for the rest of our
lives.' And that's something I'm gonna f---ing miss for the rest of mine."

Oh shit, I thought this thread was "douchebag".

My bad. But then that begs the question. Just why in the fug is a douchebag like me posting in this thread??/

I have to admitt the first time I heard the guitar on cowboys from hell I was a fan of pantera and that amazing chunging guitar sound. Its a shame that the world is this crazy.

Well, I'd hate to make assumptions about his social life... but, I think it's probably pretty safe in this case.

Yea thats why i asked. I didnt want to make any unfair assumptions or judgments of the man. But after seeing him on TV interviews, he might have worn that nickname as a "badge of honor" ?

I'll step aside and let a Pantera fan answer definitively (not that I dislike Pantera... I just don't know a lot about them), but I don't see why a person would go by Dime Bag if they weren't a pothead.

Almost positive the entire band was potheads.

Hard to believe that musicians would be involved in such things.

Yeah who would have figured.
