LB - Sign Kendral (sp?) Bell
CB - Sign Fred Smoot
DE - Draft All-American Matt Roth from Iowa

Obviously some more minor changes, but these are the big ones. Anyone disagree?

Bell and Smoot would be big upgrades, especially Bell. That would be awesome.

Don't know who Matt Roth is, but no doubt he's better than Hicks. Or Holliday.

Don't know if it has been posted or not, but the news from around here is that Philip Buchanon wants to be traded and Charles Woodsen may have gotten too expensive for the Al Davis and his faders. I would take either Smoot or Buchanon. I like the QB from Louisville also, great completion percnetage and has great field awareness.

of course, he's still very young and should get better with more experience and coaching...

(isn't that an "ascending" player?)

Kendrell Bell isn't the answer.

He can't stay healthy.

You don't give millions of dollars to players who can't stay healthy.

Smoot? Yes.

Bell? No. He's on his way to being labeled injury "prone".

Buchanon? No way. For every big play he makes, he lets the other team make 2...

And Matt Roth is a playmaker...we could do alot worse in the draft.

With the way the league is enforcing the pass interferance/no contact after 5 yards rule, there isn't a defensive player in the league who isn't going to get burned.

That's a BS excuse.

Yes, ALL CB's will get burned from time-to-time. Buchanon gets burned WAY MORE than the "average" NFL CB.

Marcus Spears should be gone long before we draft.

Defensive cure for offseason:

Put every D player except Jared Allen,, Lional Dalton and Greg Wesley on bus and drive it over the nearest ****in cliff.

Make sure Carl and Peter Guinta are on the front of that bus.

Would we take much of a cap hit in that situation?

We first need to get rid of the current _efense.

I'd suggest a firing squad but I'm sure Carl would find a way to screw that up too.

Would we take much of a cap hit in that situation?

Would it really matter?

I mean, even if we couldn't afford to sign anyone else and had to play the O players on D as well, could we be any worse?

I guess I'm asking, if we kill off the D do we have to pay the rest of their salaries, or would it clear up a lot of cap space?

I'm sure that even if something like that isn't covered in the CBA, then Tags would just rule that all the bonus' would be accelerated.

But to answer your question, I don't know.

There are a few guys that would save us some money if we cut them. I'm pretty sure Vonnie Holliday is due a huge roster bonus, he won't be back.

I think we need 4 new starters. Here's the 4 I'd like to get

Kendrell Bell - LB
Julian Peterson _LB
Fred Smoot - CB
Dwight Smith - S/CB

However, Smoot will command big money so I'd be fine with substituting Ken Lucas or Gary Baxter for him. Also, I'd watch the Titans. Samari Rolle could very well be a cap casualty.

In the draft I'd go DE in the first if we can get Kiwi or Erasmus James in the first and CB in the 2nd. If they are both gone, I'd go Carlos Rogers CB Auburn or another CB and DE in the 2nd (Chris Canty DE Virginia).

I'd actually toy with Bell as an OLB. I'm leaning to it being better to have Mitchell start rather than Fujita.

I can't see forking over a huge contract to a guy like Bell who can't stay on the field. I'd love to have Peterson, but I'd make sure that knee was fully checked out first.
