I guess you don't follow the Steelers or watch any other team than the Chiefs because this guy is constantly injured and would not be a good pickup, whatsoever.

Is he any worse than what we currently have? No. He's young and has been productive when he's on the field. I'm all for signing him, at the right price.

2001-Played 16 Games
2002-Played 12 Games
2003-Played 16 Games
2004-Played 3 games so far (questionable for the playoffs divisional roound, won't be a 100% healthy till the offseason with this Groin injury.

So I wouldn't say he is "constantly injured" since 3 of his 4 first years he played 44 of 48 games and then this year had the groin pull. If he can show he has healed and is 100% healthy in the off-season. Sign him :thumb:

Is this thread just a general "Kendrell Bell is a good player" thread, or is he actually going to be available as a free agent? I can't believe Pittsburgh would let him go.

If Pitt lets him go, we have no choice, we have to take a shot at him, injury prone or not, we lack a leader on defense and this guy could be that and thats what we need is a true leader on defense.

If the front office in Pittsburgh is anything like their fans, Bell was gone yesterday. The fans here HATE Bell. They think he is a giant pussy, and know that they can win without him. In fact, a couple of my buddies who are Steelers fans make fun of me because a lot of prognosticators have said we'll end up with Bell.

Kendrell Bell is a solid as they come Free Agent MLBer. He's leaps and bounds better than what we currently have and we desperately need a field general for the defense. I've like what I have seen in the past of Bell and am shocked by some of the comments regarding Bell being a puss, ect...In 47 games played, Bell has 240 tackles, 18 sacks, and 1 Int. He's also fairly young, but has some upside and experience. I think Bell is better than some give him credit for. He may have been injured, but not as much as some would leave you to believe. BTW, how many games has Kawicka missed? Maslowski?

I have no problems in taking Bell. On the other hand, his injury woes concern me. If healthy he is by FAR better than any LBer we have. I don't think it would be too keen either if we gave him millions and millions of dollars. In other words, depends on his asking price, and prove he can stay healthy.

I think Bell would make a damn good pick-up for us.

I'm with you. This defense needs playmakers, passion and ferocity. Bell brings all 3.

Fujita is an OUTSIDE LBer, Bell is INSIDE LBer. I'm not sure Fujita remains a Chief or not. I think we re-sign him if we can get a 1 year minimum tender, but if we have to match somebody's offer, I think we pass. We need a MLBer to be our field general and I think Bell, fits the description in every way for the Chiefs being a legit team to get him. We need a young ascending player to help mold Mitchell.

2001 - 70 tackles
2002 - 37 tackles
2003 - 80 tackles
2004 - 6 tackles

I think that pretty much shows that he's injured quite a bit. He's not worth the risk, especially since 2005 is the make or break year for this team and coaching staff.

It does seem that he has had a lot of nagging little injuries but when he is on the field he is very solid. He had a groin injury this season and everyone knows they take a long time to come back from. Remember when Fred Taylor had so many problems coming back from his? Remember all the negative rep he was getting for it? Now look at him, a groin injury seems to be extremely debilitating for an athlete.

If he heals then I am all for picking him up at a reasonable price.

Yeah, we could get him cheap and watch him play 1 or 2 games.

That's just what this team needs.

Fujita is the most solid backer we have. Letting him go would be a mistake. Maybe if the rest of the LB corps would step up we could actually see him meet his potential. Bell will cost a lot and is injury prone. There are enough playmaker FAs in the LB position that I would rather not see him on our team. Not to mention if his cost is as high as I estimate it to be, we could pick up two reasonable FAs for his price. Remember, we have quite a few needs to be addressed. We must pick up a solid FA CB and then we will draft one. We still have to address FS, DE, ROLB and MLB. Then if we let fujita go, who has the potential to be a helluva pass rusher, we will have to address LOLB.

The bottom line:
Look for a standout CB.
(Baxter? Lucas?)
Look for overlooked LBs/DE that will be cheap.
(Hartwell? Witherspoon?)
Draft a DE/LB.
(I dont follow college enough to make a suggestion.)
FS will be addressed as possible after the above.

Did Bell have any minor "clean up" surgery on his shoulder during the off season? You could tell he was favoring it in some games last year in the way he'd engage blockers. Anyone know?

Amazing how much things can change in 1 year. We were looking for Bell to come in and shore up a LB corps where the only reliable guy was Fujita. Bell was going to be a fearsome MLB, or injured depending on your perspective.

Fujita's gone, Bell played every game as an OLB, but was clearly the weak link of the corp. Who knew?

Well said. It's ironic that the linebacking corp is not only the defense's best unit but also it's most youthful.
