The jersey worn by Kansas City tight end Tony Gonzalez (http://www.kcchiefs.com/player/tony_gonzalez/) during the Chiefs’ season finalehttp://www.kcchiefs.com/media/images/F4977F36AEB14E23B5D9E37718AAACF9.JPG?0.1394697888646682 against the San Diego Chargers on January 2, 2005 arrived at the Pro Football Hall of Fame today (http://www.profootballhof.com/hall/release.jsp?release_id=1375). In that game, he set the single-season NFL mark for catches by a tight end.

RELATED STORY: Recent mementos added to the Hall’s collection (http://www.profootballhof.com/hall//release.jsp?release_id=1310)

He set the set the record with 102 catches to become the first tight end since 1986 (Todd Christensen) to lead the league in receptions. He also broke the Chiefs’ mark of 93 receptions that he had set during the 2000 NFL season. His career-high 1,258 yards in 2004 were also the second most receiving yards ever recorded by a tight end in a season. Gonzalez earned his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl invitation for his efforts.

He also joined just four other tight ends in NFL history to register multiple 1,000-yard receiving seasons. The others include Hall of Famers Kellen Winslow and Ozzie Newsome as well as Shannon Sharpe and Christensen.

He now ranks third all-time in receptions by a tight end (658) and is fourth all-time in receiving yardage (6,905). With 54 touchdown grabs, he now trails only Shannon Sharpe and Jerry Smith as the NFL’s all-time TD leader among tight ends.
