Player Profile
Erasmus James
School: Wisconsin
Position: Defensive End
Class: Senior
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 263lbs
Birthday: 11/4/82
40 Time: 4.72 (estimated)
Positives
- Possesses a big, thick lower body for a defensive end. Is quick off the ball and shows a real burst when turning the corner. Flashes speed and power when rushing the quarterback. Is having an outstanding senior season.
Weaknesses
- Is only an average player against the run. Can find the quarterback but lacks awareness when defending the run. Missed the 2003 season due to a hip injury.
Overall Analysis
- Erasmus James began the 2004 season as a huge question mark, but he now is looking like a solid day one prospect after a spectacular start to his senior season. James arrived at Wisconsin as a partial qualifier in 2000 and did not play. He played in 12 games (1 start) in 2001 and posted 6 sacks, and played in 14 games (13 starts) in 2002 and posted 4 sacks. Unfortunately, James suffered a hip injury prior to the 2003 season that shelved him for the entire year. At one point James’ football career was in question, but he successfully rehabilitated the hip after seeing a specialist. So far the rehabilitation appears to be a success as James has caused havoc for every quarterback who has lined up opposite the Badger defense in 2004. James has good size and a big, thick lower body for a defensive end. He has good pass-rush moves, and can be effective with the bull-rush or with speed around the corner. But while James has shown awesome ability as a pass-rusher, his play against the run leaves a bit to be desired. James can hold the point of attack against the run, but occasionally he will have trouble locating the ball and needs to show more awareness on the football field. And while he seems to be completely back from the hip injury, some teams might have a medical red flag on him due to the past problem. As of now James carries a solid second round grade, but he has an outside shot of being a first round pick if he continues to play well and the question about his hip turns into a non-issue.

Eric Green
School:Virginia Tech
Ht Wt Spd Position
6.0 198 4.49 CB
2004: 31 TKL, 1.5 TFL, 1 INT, 5 PBU, 1 QBH.
By Robert Bryant
Green enters the season with seven career interceptions; with three interception last season, returning two for touchdowns. Eric's is also a threat on special teams where he has blocked four kicks. He is very experienced and saw action at cornerback in 23 of 24 games during his first two seasons at Tech. He was in the running for a starting job at corner when he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee prior to the start of 2002 preseason practice. He was inconsistent at times last season, but found himself pressed into action as a true freshman in 2000 due to injuries at the cornerback position. He ended up starting five games, playing nearly 400 defensive plays and was named second-team Freshman All-America by The Sporting News after the season. Green's knee appears to be fully healed, he had a strong game in the 2004 season opener, helping to shut down USC's young recievers. He seems to have finaly stayed healthy for his senior season and has a chance to emerge as a serious NFL prospect.
