At that site at least.... :p

Perhaps we should e-mail him to see if he can fix ours? Or maybe we can trade Bob Dole for him? We'd probably have to throw in a poster to be named later though.... :hmmm:

Search fixed
Posted on June 23, 2003 @ 15:44 in Sitestuff

The search function was broken, but is fixed again.

I added a blog, but didn't exclude it from being searched. The new blog doesn't have category archiving and the sidebar that gets MTIncluded in the search_template does make use of the MTCategoryLink tag. This broke the search template. Bah.

Anyway, just a good reminder that I should make the different elements of the sidebar into different modules, as I had decided to do some time ago. Including only the modules that make sense on a page, cuts the amount of unnecessary stuff on pages, which is always a good thing.

Uh, the search function isn't "broken" here.
Why can't it be turned on, say, one day a week?

Frankie

Why do you want the BB performance to suck one day a week?
That's a good trade off.

I know; I'm just harassing you guys. :thumb:

Excuse my frankness, but you're an idiot.

When someone executes a search, the board does not respond. How the hell is that a good tradeoff?

"Hey, chiefsplanet.com won't load. It must be 'Searchin' Saturday'! If I were able to actually log on, I could execute a search! How awesome is this?!?!"
Then IT'S BROKE. Excuse my Frankieness too.

Frankie

No, it's turned off.
Because it breaks down the bb operation. I call that "broke."

I have spoken. :harumph:

Search isn't broken, it's a performance issue with the function. So it's has been shut off.

Server, MySQL,.....???

When I need to do a search, I just go onto a BB in India and offer a nickel to whomever comes to chiefsplanet and finds what I'm looking for. They're really hard workers over there.

A disgustingly enormous database?

How about paring the accessible database down to the last 6 months, or year?.... :hmmm:

Mr. Kotter

Fabulous idea.

OK.....am I to surmise that isn't possible....

I'm no computer whiz; just wonderin'

It's certainly possible.

Unfortunately, much of the stuff people are looking for when they search would no longer exist, and the search function would be a little worthless.

I'd posted before, but there are other BBSes where;

the search is divided into fastest, slow and total, delineated by how far back you your search goes.

searches are limited to one every minute per user.

Would either of these help?

Ppssshhhaaaa. Hell, most of us don't have long-term memory anyway--burned those cells, you know. Remembering stuff from more than a year ago would challenge most of us.... :p

Just 'cutting it to 6 months' would be a horrific mistake...the best option would be a more time consuming task of going through and removing all the 'poop and pee' threads that are 12 pages long, political threads from the past that are in the main forum, and other 'chat' threads that are basically 20 pages of smilies.

This would reduce the size of the db, while protecting the football content.

This version of vB doesn't appear to offer much other than search off or on.

If people like the person who has 529 PMs stored would clean out their mailbox, it might help address the enormous size of the db.

Eat a dick, SD. :grr:

This was much funnier when I did it (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?p=2187762#post2187762).

At least, in my opinion.

Why would you want to remove THOSE threads? :cuss:

Hey, BTW.....this is a Football forum? Really? :hmmm:

Why don't we just delete the old football content? Nobody cares about that...

Sorry, didn't know you had "copyrights" on the thread. My bad; forgive me?

Besides, that was from the mouse excrement days....I plead temporary insanity. If you don't accept that, well.....tough. :p

How does one store 529PM's...Mine says I have a 150 limit. btw, what is the size of the db?

Move all posts before 1/2003 to the Archives.

It would help immensely, IMO. Archives are different than the normal database. You can still look through them, though.

There is roughly 13GB of db and 20GB of attachments.

And no, it wasn't me.

How about dumpin' attachments older than 12 months?

You're not special.

Heh...as far as PM's are concerned, I have no qualms...sheesh. 529? If I saved everyone Ive ever received I might have 25 to my name.

That's because nobody likes you. I'd bet all 25 of them were death threats.

As ascerbic as I am around here, that's no suprise...2 of them were threats of violence, however, both by the same person.

What they should do is just erase some of the database and free up that space...
