View Full Version : Need a cheap Vacation

My wife will be done with Law School this spring. I can't wait to add a second income!!!!!!!! Anyway I would like to suprise her with a quick 4 day or so vacation. Where can I go for a reasonable price. I just want to go some place cool, to reward her.

Any Ideas, I'd like to keep it under 3K

It seem like everytime we go someplace it costs us 3K...

Anyway, unless the location is Chicago, KC, or the Twin Cities we will need to fly, she doesn't like to ride in the car. Can you even fly to South Dakota?

Now I would like to go to Vegas. She is not into gambling so I wonder, but there is a ton of cool stuff to do there.

I was also thinking about going to DC, for an extended weekend.

If it's only four days, you're not going overseas, I presume.

It's hard to beat Manhattan as a quick getaway. I stayed at the Algonquin Hotel recently for about $300 a night, and it's got a great location just off Times Square. You can walk to Broadway Shows, go check out David Letterman, go through Central Park, and eat some really good food.

My second choice would be Charleston, South Carolina, but I think you can get more action in Manhattan if you're limited to four days.

For a long time, I've wanted to go to Lake Tahoe. I like the whole quiet-cabin-on-the-lake thing, tho. If this vacation is a surprise for her, it really depends on what kind of vacations she prefers.

Deadwood is less than one hour drive from Rapid City's airport. You can get a taste of a mini-Vegas, coupled with cooler scenic beauty, and some interesting historic stuff too... :hmmm:

Skiing, snow-mobiling, fishing and hunting that you won't find in Vegas too.

If you want something completely different, go to Santa Fe and get a hotel on the town square. There are some great spas there for pampering oneself, and if you stay downtown it's a very unique city. It's also small enough that four days is a reasonable amount of time to spend there.

Ok, if you fly its going to cost you $300 per person round trip, and thats cheap.

So thats $600

You got to stay some place thats not a rat hole. Lets say $150 a night, 3 nights thats $450, so lets say $500 with taxes.

So we are at $1100 with out doing anything.

$100 bucks a day for food. Could it be cheaper? Yes, but we like to go out for nice meals when on Vacation. Lets say $300

$1400, plus any activitys

OK maybe I should look at doing this for $1500

More power to ya... it's just funny to hear that it's "cheap" compared to all the ways we tried to save to go on those trips while on a college budget. I love to travel, so if I ever get a job that allows it, I'm sure I'll spend lots and lots of money on vacations ;)

Rental car, souvenir t-shirts and refrigerator magnets, entry into some shows or exhibits or something, and you'll spend more on food than that. Maybe $2,000, but more likely $2,250.

As cool as the Hotel De Lyon sounds, I would recommend Naples, Florida. Awesome city. Great beaches. Everglades are a 30 minute drive. Keys really aren't that far away either. Check the web for rates at the Ritz - Carlton. Want to pamper yourself and the wife? The Ritz is the place to do it. Enjoy.

I'm a big fan of the Black Hills. Very reasonable prices, and you won't find prettier country anywhere, IMO. Custer State Park is pretty much my favorite place on earth.

Getting there can be a problem, though. Flying is a pain in the ass since you have to hop a flight from a nearby hub city like Denver. Those regional flights can get expensive. I always drive (about 14 hours from Chicago), but obviously that won't work for 4 days, since you'll burn two travelling.

If you ever have more time, you really should check it out.

Did someone say cheap vacation? I'm going to Jamaica next week for free!
For what's its worth Dawes I'd suggest Lake Placid. If you want her to get away from it all and you want to take her someplace romantic it's the place to go.
Great small town with awesome scenery and the ladies love it so much they don't mind you dragging them around to see all of the Olympic stuff.
You can fly into Albany on Southwest pretty cheap, rent a car, and find a very cozy romantic B&B for a lot less then 3k.

I was more so referring to this notion that you know other people's financial situations. And for the record. You are the ONLY one that talks about post counts.

The only time I worry about someone is when KCChiefsman is not making fun of you. If he is trying to call you out then you are doing something right.

It does not take to much to put him on the defensive, he then likes to post out of a pure inferiority complex.

Sounds like the old GoChiefs.

I'm a big fan of the Black Hills. Very reasonable prices, and you won't find prettier country anywhere, IMO. Custer State Park is pretty much my favorite place on earth.

You've obviously got very good taste. :toast: Part of what is now Custer State Park(SE section) was owned by my great grandfather. The Black Hills are by far my favorite place to go, but large part of that is because of all the memories/history there, not just the amazing scenery.

you sound pretty stupid "redneck"raider. Ya I dropped a few grand in Vegas, its not a vacation you're probably used to in the woods or whatever. Just because YOU couldnt afford it, redneck, does not mean that I couldn't, bud.

I get on the defensive a lot, because if I post anything at all, no matter what it's about, some idiot white trash piece of shit tries to insult me. I don't like those kinds of people even speaking to me, let alone insulting me.

First of all, have you even met anyone from Chiefsplanet in order to come to these conclusions? It seems that any time anyone insults you, they automatically get the "white trash" label. Hell, Donald Trump could read a few of your posts and easily come to the conclusion that you're an over-compensating, insecure, prejudiced moron in no time flat. Would that make him an idiot white trash piece of shit, too?

It has nothing to do with how much money someone makes or how expensive a lifestyle they lead. People from all walks of life can be intelligent, caring individuals worthy of respect, and many can even get along with each other by having strong enough character to put their prejudices aside.

I doubt that you know anything about RedneckRaider other than the "Redneck" moniker in his username, and the fact that he insults you occasionally. He may have been a little nicer to you if this (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showpost.php?p=814435&postcount=9) hadn't been the first impression you gave him and just about everyone else here.

You complain about people insulting you no matter what your posts say. That's only true now because of the material you have given us already. The majority of what we've seen from you so far is already stored in the Hall of Classics. If posting on the board is the only interaction you'll ever have with any of us, then the only way to earn any respect is to prove us wrong. Show us that you're not really the person we make you out to be. Demonstrate it to us through your actions rather than just telling us how cool you think you are. You have earned the disrespect you garner now, and you'll have to earn any respect that you think you deserve.

All I have to say is that some of you should take a look at your lives, and then decide if you should be insulting anybody.

Good idea. You first.

Oh and BTW, if you start bagging on RedneckRaider again without getting to know him or having any idea where he's coming from, I'll readily and happily kick your ass myself.

Rule #1
Do NOT get on Jazzzlovr's bad side. It's rather like skinny-dipping in lava.

Rule #2
If you want to get on Jazzzlovr's bad side, go skinny-dipping in the lava first. It won't hurt as much.

Well done and nicely stated--but all in all--given what we know about KCChiefsMan, you'd have better luck conversating with a Pepsi machine...

Search for Platinum Vacations...
The wifey and I were able to take a 4 day cruise through the Bahamas and Key West last year for $600 combined leaving Miami.

We got a room 2 flights below the deck with a window.
