Historical license plates go on vehicles 25 years or older, which makes a 1980 model eligible. What the hell will be the classic autos of the 1980s

Dodge Mirada, Monte Carlo SS are the first that come to mind.

I always thought my 1979 Mustang Turbo was pretty cool, as cool as it got in 1979. For the mullet crowd the TransAm/Firebird can't be overlooked. In those years the Camaro still sucked.

For you 'this thread is worthless without pictures types':
You asked for it:

One of these guys is me, one is now a MO state trooper, and one is a counselor for wayward kids. My 79' Barebone Mustang Turbo is in the background. The only option it had was a heater, and I'm not joking. No power steering, no power brakes, no power anything. It didn't even have a center console, just a boot around the shifter and then another boot around the E-brake.

I blew up the Turbo 4 about 3 weeks after I bought it, the sound of the turbo spooling was just too tempting for me. We later swapped a 5.0 into it out of a 1985 Capri. That was the last year for the 4bbl carb with roller cam, about 210hp. I bolted on a NOS 125hp plate, and I was the big boy on the block. Can't tell you how fast that Nitrous kit paid for itself. Keep in mind this was back in 87', when everyone thought Nitrous would blow up your motor....

I'm not a fan of '80s TransAm/Firebird :shake:

I tend to agree, although we were at a MOPAR show in Topeka a few years ago where a 1984 OMNI won Best of Show. :shake: All that fine classic American muscle there and an Omni won Best of Show...

Yep, Not a good decade for cars. I think the two I posted are classics, but they are limited production.

Not exacly a good example of American engineering. Cant really recall...Did Shelby have his name on one of the Omni models?

I was kinda fond of the Dodge Daytona. I owned an 85 Turbo and 88 as well. The 88 was garbage, but I loved the 85.

I also thought the 82 Malibu 2 door had classic lines.

I think you're right, I try to block out the 80 MOPARS, Iacocca may have pulled the company out of the toilet but gadzooks those K-cars sucked.

The 80s buick regals have started to gain a gathering, mostly the rap crowd though.
Although I wouldn't mind a buick GNX.

I loved my '85 Cutlass Supreme. Great car. When I finally got rid of it, it had 174,000 miles on it.

Mine only had a 6 in it, but it did okay. I'd much rather have the '64, though....

the big eight gave it plenty of oomph...

man, i wish i had that car now...
