DVD backup advice

Anybody know what kinds of copy protections are standard on DVD movies? I want to make backups of some of my movies with my new DVD burner and was wondering what kind of software I might need.

DVD Shrink is the only way to go IMO plus its free. I use it and make an ISO file and then burn it with Roxio or Nero.
All new DVD's are copyright protected but DVD Shrink breaks the encryption on the DVD so it can backup it up with no problem.
