I find it peculiar that the start of Lent and the beginning of the Chinese new Year start on the same day. During Lent, this year, I promise to not be a smartass to Scott Lent, and I intend on staying away from SkipTowne's wacky tobacky.

Also... Since I was born in 1973, I am an 'OX' it appears that my year will be swell.

The Chinese Year of the Rooster.

Around the globe, the Chinese New Year celebrations will take place based on the 9th February 2005, which is start of the Lunar New Year. In ancient China, people used the lunar calendar in everyday life, but astrologers used the solar calendar. According to the solar calendar, the New Year begins on 4th February 2005, which is known as the ‘Beginning of Spring’. Well, whether we choose to go by the moon or the sun, 2005 is a Wood Rooster year.

In Chinese Astrology there are five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal and water) and twelve animals (rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog an boar) forming a complete cycle of sixty. This means there are five different types of Rooster year: wood rooster, fire rooster, earth rooster, metal rooster and water rooster. So what sort of qi (energy) will the wood rooster year bring for us?

The rooster is the first creature to awake in the morning and wakes up the others with crowing. Time to get up and get on with it, the rooster personality is up-front and focused. Their forthright nature will not make Roosters the best diplomats, however, you can count on their thorough approach and attention to detail to get the job done. We associate the qualities of sharpness and precision with the qi (energy) of the rooster, as its essence is the metal element. In a Rooster year, we will hear more cutting criticisms of those in the public life and feathers might well fly as prides are dented, nevertheless all will benefit from the rude awakening. Despite a fuss and a flap we can expect to prudence to be the key in economic matters for the Rooster is a good money manager.

In 2005, the year animal is the Rooster, but we also have the prevailing qi of the wood element to make this year, the Wood Rooster. A flowering shrub is a good metaphor for the wood qi (energy), new growth reaching upwards and outwards. The wood brings us new hope and optimism. However, in a wood rooster year, the wood clashes with the metal in the rooster, we can expect conflicts, yet these can be bridged with water qi, which means communication with wisdom.
Although the energy of the wood rooster sets the backdrop for the vibrations of the time, our awareness of this can steer us to act in the right way. The Rooster’s lack of tact means that diplomacy will be even more needed on the world scene in 2005 in easing conflicts and the United Nations will have a major role to play. It is important for the leading powers to really take notice of what the UN has to say in order to avert further crises. In fact the UN will be sixty in 2005, it was founded in the previous wood rooster year, 1945. Sixty is a full cycle in the Chinese view of time and a special celebration for any person or organisation reaching this milestone.

The Rooster is the Peach Blossom or Romance Star for those born in the years of the Monkey, Rat and Dragon. To bring a new love into their lives, single Monkeys, Rats and Dragons can place a vase of fresh flowers in the west side of their homes. The peach blossom power of the rooster means we have to be watchful of sex scandals, the happily paired off should stay away from temptation. If coupledom is miserable for you then use the wake up call of the Rooster to kick start a transformation in your relationship. Cut through all the knots and replace chaos with order or cut the bonds that tie and start afresh.

Now lets take a look at your personal horoscope for the year ahead based on your year animal sign.

For your individual forecast in the year of the Wood Rooster, you need to first look up your animal sign in Table 1. Find your year of birth then look up the animal sign on the left hand column. For example, if you were born in May 1963, find 1963 in the table and look to the leftmost column in the same row and you will find you are a rabbit sign. If your birthday is in January or on the first 4 days of February, look up the animal for the previous year.

For example, suppose you were on 10th January 1955 you need to look up the animal for the previous year, which is 1954, then look for the animal in the leftmost column in the same row as 1954, which is Horse.

Animal Outlook for 2005

Rat: Rats can expect a boost from the rooster year and gain much support for the development of new plans and career moves. New projects will gain momentum and things could happen overnight. Much excitement in your social life, so accept invitations and enjoy the partying.

OX: Rooster year can bring new friends and partnerships for the ox. Happy times are indicated and the Rooster influence will encourage the Ox to be more financially rewarded than usual. Dare to be different at work and at home and you may even surprise yourself.

TIGER: After a trying time in the year of the Monkey, Tigers can look ahead to better times in the Rooster year. Let go of any old worries from the past and put a roar back into your voice as you articulate your goals. Lessons learnt will inspire you with new possibilities and a determination to forge ahead.

RABBIT: This can prove to be a challenging year for Rabbits. One step forwards and two steps back. Hopeful prospects can be easily undermined. Seek out your friends and they will be able to help you overcome obstacles at home and at work. Don’t try to tackle your setbacks on your own.

DRAGON: Harmonious relationships at home and at work are indicated for the Dragon. Promotion opportunities are promising and for those Dragons running their own businesses, new influential friends will help you make gains. There could be good news and celebrations with loved ones

SNAKE: This is a lucky year for snakes. Teamwork will lead to great accomplishments and awards and rewards abound. Personal relationships will prove fruitful and you can let go of hassles and enjoy lots of laughter.

HORSE: If the Rooster year slows down the progress of the racing horse, this is likely to lead to temporary frustrations and upsets. However, this may turn out to be a blessing in disguise and it would be wise to avoid over-exerting yourself, then you will see that it is a good year for you after all and that time out to recharge was extremely positive.

SHEEP: If criticism comes your way, don’t react to it and resolve any disputes amicably. Staying cool, calm and collected is the key to enjoying this year. Demands from family, friends and bosses might feel overwhelming, so remember to please yourself first and foremost.

MONKEY: After an exhilarating time in the previous year, the Monkey needs to consolidate and stabilise, so avoid over-extending yourself and trying to control too much. Trust that your plans will go through and avoid pushing too hard. Remember to find time to relax at home.

ROOSTERS: Roosters can expect a happy year and a time to reflect on missions accomplished and next steps. High spirits might sink quickly when conflicts arise, however, these can be readily resolved and lead to more support in the long run for your new ideas.

DOG: Dogs might feel inclined to be pulled in too many directions in the year of the Rooster. Don’t bite off more than you can chew and you will be able to stay enthusiastic rather than end up exhausted. Overall a year where the downs will be balanced with the ups.

PIG: A busy year and you might well find yourself as piggy in the middle mediating disputes between colleagues or friends. Be patient with these distractions and you will find enormous satisfaction from motivating and encouraging others.

yeah, there is something to the Chinese New Year... it pays attention to the moon and the first new moon after "some event" signifies the New year to them... interesting.

Im an Ox, and doing research on other sites... it pretty much nails it, which I find kinda bizarre.
