That 1962 season by Haynes is pretty impressive. No one comes close to Priest's 2002 outing though, IMO.

Never heard of Tony Reed before.... :)

I find it interesting that you posted the team record in your QB poll, but not in your RB poll.

In this case, the word "interesting" means "I couldn't disagree more with the assumption that you are implying".

Heh. I just felt W-L record wasn't as important to a RB's stature.

Actually after looking more closely at the stats, I'd have to say the 2002 performance was better, even with being out the final 2 games. You should have included YPC in your stats because it really shows a difference. His yards per carry were greater by a whole yard in 2002. The TD record stuck in my mind for 2003.

when you consider the differences in the rules back in 1962 (defenders could be much more physical, offensive lineman couldn't use their hands like they do now, for example) and the shorter schedule, abner's performance in '62 comes awfully close to being the best season by a running back...

Kimble Anders would've been a kickass HB... :(

My two favorite seasons by a RB aren't listed. The '81 season when rookie Joe Delaney came off the bench midway through the year and ran for 1,000 yards and led the team to a 9-7 record was probably my favorite.

The other one that really stood out for me was Barry Word's 1990 season when he ran for 1,015 yards despite having less carries than Christian Okoye, who only had 805 yards. Word was a monster that year, and DeBerg's great season in the play-action offensive could be traced back to Word's effectiveness.

I'll bet it really surprised some opponent when they threw that pass to Christian Okoye.

They may not have been surprised that they threw him the ball, but I bet they were shocked when it didn't bounce off his helmet.

Clearly, the correct answer is Holmes in either 2002 or 2003. I'd say 2003 without a doubt.

27 rushing TDs? Are you freaking kidding me? That's at least as impressive as 2,000 yards rushing...so impressive, in fact, that no other player has ever done it.

In 2002 Priest broke franchise records for rush yards, TDs, and yards from scrimmage. Given two final games, he was on pace to break the NFL TD record and destroy the yards from scrimmage record. It was perhaps one of the greatest seasons in the history of the NFL.

I voted for 2003, but in retrospect, I also feel that 2002 was even more impressive.
