I'm calling BS on this.28 Kansas City Chiefs $-7 M Considering their current cap situation, the Chiefs are going have trouble finding (and paying for) the help they need on the defensive side of the ball. They were like 6 million under last spring, now 7 million OVER?

I'm calling BS on this.

Who's BS? Is he some sort of cap specialist? Let me know what he says.
Does K.C.'s front office know about him?

That number means pretty much nothing now. Salaries will be moved around, people will be cut, all will be fine.

How long until we can cut Vonnie Holliday?

depends on your definition of "fine"

if you mean fine- we won't have to cut half the team ... yes, we will be fine.

my prediction:

regardless of who gets cut etc we will be JUST under the cap and will be able to sign 1 or 2 credible starters and a backup or 2.

teams can make the cap dance a jig if they chose ... the chiefs chose to allow just enough cap room to make some conservative additions and nothing more.

I think you will find my definition acceptable.

From what I could tell on nflpa's site, there are 4 players alone that could eliminate this cap issue...

Holliday has a 2.2M base
McCleon has a 1.5M base
Warfield has a 3.3M base
Morton has a 3M base

That's 10M in base that needs to be cut/reworked.

I'm not sure;

but if will beoome obvious that we are 'against the cap', etc...when after FA passes, and we haven't obtained at least one skilled player to fill the many holes in our canoe...er I mean defense.

At least, that's what the Chiefs 'machine' will spew out.

The Chiefs are one of about 5 teams that can't seem to manipulate the cap effectively.

I'm sure the FA's don't fit out profile.

Holliday and Morton are foreGONE conclusions, as could be McCleon if we are able to get a replacement for him. McCleon does not fit in this defense. Warfield would have to get a bonus in order to renegotiate, but since he's going to be suspended, doesn't that lower his cap number? There is no way we cut him as he is our only CB that is of NFL calibre. Julian Battle could be cut this year if he does not show anything.

I would take Warfield off that list, and add Hicks if I could. Dude has been a huge disappointment...

We go through this every offseason, but I wouldn't trust those numbers. Unless they went over every contract in detail (are they even public info?) they wouldn't know this. Considering we were $6mil UNDER the cap last year, I am betting we moved some money around and redid a few contracts without making the press. Carl is generally pretty tight-lipped on things like that that don't change the length of the contracts.

Imagine CP comes up to you and says, "You are due to make $3mil next year and only $1mil this year. How about we pay you $3.5mil this year, and you play for the league minimum next?"

I suspect, strongly, that this occurred during the year, and we just don't know about it.
