MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) - An announcement could come as soon as Monday regarding the reported sale of the Minnesota Vikings to Arizona businessman Reggie Fowler.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune is reporting that Fowler has purchased the Vikings from Red McCombs for at least $625 million.

According to the newspaper, a news conference will be held Monday afternoon at the Vikings' headquarters in Eden Prairie.

Fowler, 46, would become the first black owner of an NFL team.

The sale of any franchise must be approved by 24 of the league's 32 owners and could take months to complete.

The last NFL team to be sold was the Atlanta Falcons, who were purchased by Arthur Blank for $545 million in 2002.

McCombs bought the Vikings for $246 million in 1998. He has been shopping the Vikings for a couple of years but stepped up his efforts in the last couple of weeks, entering an exclusive negotiating period with Fowler.

Fowler, 46, who played linebacker in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals and attended the University of Wyoming, is the founder of Spiral Inc, a diversified holdings corporation.

Alan Landis, a former partner of the NBA's New Jersey Nets, and Zyggi Wilf, part of a New Jersey family real estate empire, are believed to be among Fowler's key co-investors.

The highest sales price for an NFL franchise is $800 million, which owner Daniel Snyder paid for the Washington Redskins in 1999.

If I bought something from you knowing you were profiting nearly $400 MILLION dollars, it had better be pushing golden pussies off the assembly line 10,000 per hour.

They are probably better off without him. He was notoriously cheap. Thats why he hangs on to Mike Tice because hes a cheap head coach.

Wonder if Reggie Fowler is a Randy Moss fan? There could be huge changes coming in Minnesota.

That would be the only reason to pay 2.5 times what McCombs paid for them. He must have some deal working with LA.

If Fowler agrees to move the Vikes to LA, the sale will be approved in a heartbeat. For some reason, the NFL is salivating for a team in Los Angeles. If the deal does go through, I hope the NFL doesn't have a brainfart and decide to do another realignment, and put the new Los Angeles Vikings in the AFCW, and move the Chiefs to the NFCN. That would suck!!!

Wouldn't it suck if Minnesota lost both NBA and NFL franchises to LA? That would be like the Chiefs moving to Oakland.

I hadn't thought of that. I figured, that if the move was made, they might change the name of the team. Los Angeles Vikings just doesn't sound right, but I'm sure Los Angeles Lakers sounded pretty weird at first too.

I doubt changing the name would be much consolation. I'm sure Vikings fans are crapping their pants about now.

Yea, okay.

That, or the fact that the franchise has appreciated in value, just like every other franchise in the NFL.

Why does the NFL have such a hardon about a team being in LA???? Has anyone really missed the LA Rams or the LA Raiders??? No way SoCal fans are as passionate about their football as Minnesota fans are. No way. Most of the people in SoCal are from other parts of the country anyways and are already loyal to other teams.

There is no way the NFL is going to move a thriving team with good fan support while there are abortions like the Cardinals out there.

It doesn't have shit to do with the LA fans, the Rams, nor the Raiders.

It has everything to do with Pepsi, Anheiser Busch, Chevrolet, Miller Lite, Levitra, McDonalds, etc.

Nope the NFL is using an owner not from Minnesota as a bargaing chip to get a new stadium up there. Los Angeles being open is another chip. Look for the Vikings to get a new stadium.
