Is it any wonder why our LB's suck so bad?

We need to settle/renegotiate/cut Maz, Barber, McCleon, Morton, Hicks...seems to me there is a lot of money to be saved.

I bet Trent would renegotiate (I'd don't mean take a cut) to clear up a couple of mill if it was gonna go to a stud D player.

How many of these guys will be cut June 1st, when half of the cap hit is pushed to next year, which will be someone other than Carl's problem.

Morton, Barber, Maz, ????

I totally agree. Carl could go wild here. Decrease many of these guys' 2005 salaries to near minimum and give the difference up front in signing bonuses, so that only the minimum salary and a pro-rated portion of the signing bonus counts this year. Of course, this will screw future years' caps, but that won't be Carl's problem.

IMO we need to investigate dropping the following players to create cap space:

Johnnie Morton_______3,000,000_______3,885,714
Shawn Barber_______2,200,000_______3,457,142
Dexter McCleon_______1,500,000_______2,275,000
Eddie Kennison_______1,595,000_______2,178,333
Jerome Woods_______865,000_______2,123,333
Mike Maslowski_______1,000,000_______1,633,333

Barber and Maz are problematic because of injury issues. I am not sure what hit we would take for their signing bonuses, but none of these player can help us get to the SB.

I don't know about the others, but we are saddled with Woods because he just signed a contarct last season.
His pro rated bonus would put a strain on the cap.

Morton I definately agree with. No way he is worth damn near 4 million bucks to drop passes and quit on plays. Im surprised he isnt gone already.

Barber I would really like to see cut if he cant play the majority of next season, but due to the injury thing, I dont think he can be. Ive heard he could be on the PUP list, but Ive also heard he could only miss the first two weeks of the season. 3 and 1/2 million bucks is a lot of money to miss a lot of gametime. Hope he can recover, because thats a big chunk of change just riding the pine.

Dexter Mcleon I would keep. He's better than Bartee and could play in the nickel or dime if the Chiefs sign a couple corners like they should. He's much less of an impact player than he was in his first season, but he does have the capability to make some big interceptions.

Eddie Kennison, I think you almost have to keep him. I mean he broke a thousand yards and had 8 TDs last season. By far his best year here. I think he earned his salary.

Woods does need to go, but that bonus is too big of a cap hit to get rid of him, so we are just stuck with him. Hopefully he can sack up and put a little more effort into his game this season, and at least make an attempt to earn his money.

Maz, I think we reach an injury settlement or something with him and release him.

Now, my take on this, and Im surprised it hasnt been mentioned yet, is why dont we cut ERIC WARFIELD?! He is #4 on the list, because Vonnie Holliday has already been released. So his salary is 4th highest, and he is not earning that money in any way shape or form.

NO WAY is he worth 4 and 1/2 million. No way in hell. He should either have his contract majorly restructured, or be released so that we could pursue TWO top flight corners in FA instead of probably only one.

The very least he could do is re-structure and take a pay cut so that we can get some help in here on defense. If he wouldnt, I would cut his ass outright. I wasnt aware that he counted for such a high sum of money. A ludicrous amount of money if you ask me, based on his performances.

The one thing I willl say about the list:

It's pretty much in order of player value. Minus Holliday, there aren't many players that are higher on the the list than they should be. A lot of other teams have bums that are getting paid more than their stars. At least we only had one and he's gone already.

And that total LB salary number makes my want to throw up. Get some dam players for chrissakes.

Now, my take on this, and Im surprised it hasnt been mentioned yet, is why dont we cut ERIC WARFIELD?! Because he's our best player at arguably our weakest position, the only starting calibre corner we have. Hell, at this point the only nickel calibre corner we have. And his pay is not at all out of line with the going rate for the position, even if he isn't restructured. Like it or not, it's not a cheap position.

Morton, Sims, Hicks, McLeon, Bober and Bartee all seem to be overpaid, IMO. Warfield's pretty close to making the list as well.

Yeah, I think a tagged RB gets around 6 mil. compared to a tagged CB who gets around 10 mil.

What do you expect to pay starters at those positions? Yes, they all suck. But it's not like we've busted the bank on any of those guys. Most of their salaries are right in line with what we expected of them (no way to predict end results when drafting a contract).

My point was, there are a lot of teams that would have just as crappy of players, much higher on the list. We haven't shot for the moon and missed much (Holliday the one exception). Of course, I'm ready for us to shoot for the moon a bit more often.
