So much for that CB's should be worth less on the market after last season theory. Im starting to get very pessimistic about out chances of landing a CB.

The CB market is dwindling down so the Chiefs better make a move now before it is to late.

...really wanted Lucas in R&G.

Not sure what made Carolina make this move; Gamble and Manning were a pretty good 1 and 2 corner-combo.

at least my 2nd team is doing well in FA. Wahle and Lucas is a damn good day.

Jesus, I like Lucas, but $14 million guaranteed? That's probably upped Rolle, Smoot and Surtain into the 17-20 million neighborhood. That idiot Cowboy contract to Henry really has f*cked everyone.

So much for the theory that with the new rule enforcement the importance of top notch corners would diminish and diminish their market value.

Rolle and Surtain are going to want more money than Lucas.

All of a sudden Dallas' 10 million bonus yesterday looks like a good deal.

Manning had a good rookie year, but not so much last year. Pretty solid 3 deep though.

you really need to be 3 deep and i think Carolina really prefers Manning at the nickle.

I don't think it will boost Smoot that high..Here is a stat comparison..

Fred Smoot's 4yr Career Stats:
16 Interceptions
212 Total Tackles
48 passes defensed

Ken Lucas' 4yr Career Stats:
11 Interceptions
260 Total Tackles
49 passes defensed

Lucas's numbers would have been higher than Smoot's if he would have started as many games as Smoot.. Shawn Springs kept Lucas on the bench for much of his first 2 seasons.

The Carolina Panthers made what's likely to be their biggest splash of free agency Thursday, agreeing to contract terms with offensive lineman Mike Wahle.

Terms of the deal weren't available immediately, but it's believed Wahle was seeking a signing bonus in excess of $10 million.

After spending the first seven years of his career with Green Bay, Wahle, 27, was released by the Packers in a salary cap move earlier this week.

Considered by many to be the top free agent offensive lineman, Wahle can play guard or tackle. It remains unclear where the Panthers plan to use Wahle, but they have pressing needs at right tackle and right guard.

Wahle, 6-foot-6 and 304 pounds, had his best years with the Packers at left guard, but played left tackle early in his career. The Panthers had problems on the right side of their line last season. Right tackle Adam Meadows retired in training camp and Matt Willig and Todd Fordham struggled to replace him. Right guard Tutan Reyes was inconsistent in his first season as a starter.

Wahle has started 83 of 97 games in his career and hasn't missed a start since 2000. Last season, according to Stats Inc., Wahle allowed two sacks and was called for three false starts and two holding penalties.

The Panthers also have agreed to terms with cornerback Ken Lucas, who was with Seattle last season, on a six-year contract with a signing bonus of roughly $13 million.

I know. I don't follow Carolina, but I would've thought they had other weaknesses that needed to be addressed, and throwing 14 million at a corner who, IMO, isn't a 'shut down' guy is not something I'd be willing to do. Good pickup for them though, along with acquiring Wahle earlier.

there is a high market for corners right now, Carl at least has a history of giving a lot of money to CBs, so he needs to get a damn deal done with Rolle or Smoot!

And like I said a couple days ago, if not already, pretty soon a $14 million signing bonus will be a bargain in the NFL, the way they keep rising year to year. Looks like we're going to have to open up the check book this year, there's no choice, it's like going to the bathroom...you have to do it. Yeah...we'll see. We'll see indeed.

This is going to get ridiculous if Lucas gets this type of money what do you think Rolle and Law will command??? The longer we wait the less chances we have of getting the guys we want without paying out the ass.
