Today's upsets/close games have me kind of worried about tomorrow... between the 2 zones, if Kansas doesn't shoot well, this game could be 12-10 at halftime, and go into OT tied at 26.

Win tomorrow, and win a game or two in the tournament, and a #1 seed is ours

Maybe Ohio State will beat Illinois tomorrow and really stir things up. Last year the undefeated St. Joe's team lost to a team in Ohio (Xavier) to a coach that is now at Ohio State :hmmm: I seriously doubt they will though.... they're a pretty focused group.

This will be Mizzou's championship. If they win, they get back to .500 overall (I believe) which gives them a shot at the NIT.

Secondly, a Mizzou win means KU finishes second in the Big XII behind OU.

Yeah, but I also started the @ Kentucky Wildcats & @ Kansas State Wildcats... so Im 2 for 3 with Wildcats... did we play any other 'WildCats' this year? Such an unoriginal name.

And I started Mizzou @ KU... I got my mojo working.

I really think Illinois is going undefeated all the way to the title...which is a double edged sword for me because I live in Illinois but root for Kansas. I'd still much rather see Kansas win....you can take the boy out of Kansas but.......

The Illini are damn good....damn good. I think they could go down as one of the best, most complete college teams ever.

I wonder how that would make Bill Self feel.....

KU by three. These games at Mizzou are always close, regardless of the talent level of the two teams. Wayne's gonna go crazy on them and get about 30 and 15.

I watched them against Purdue, and I know Purdue sucks, but there was abosolutely no let down... Dee Brown (who was on the cover of SI... no jinx there) could have been throwing them up from half court and they would have gone in.

This is always a fun game to watch. Go Hawks. Let's open up the new arena the way we closed the last one. heh

If both teams were good, it would be.... watching all the bubble teams lose yesterday, as well as OSU, reminded me how frustrating it would be if Kansas lost. I need this game to be like 50-20 at halftime.... then it would be fun to watch ;)

Langford is still in the lockerroom. I'm afraid he broke a bone in the ankle/foot area & his KU career is over. I think the KU players know this deep & that's why they're so flat.

If my hunch is right, KU becomes extremely easy to defend w/zone b/c they have nobody that can dribble penetrate. Look for MU to win by 20-25 today, KU to lose Fri. night, be dropped to a 6 or 7 seed & be one & done in the tourney.

Depends on what Kentucky and UNC does today. Well, probably not so much UNC, since they are "the best team ever", but if Kentucky loses to Florida, it might not mean much.

If we lose, and Kentucky wins, we're probably destined for a #2, unless we get to the Championship game of the Big 12 tournament and Kentucky loses early in theirs.

I'm not worried yet. we were down 11 to Mizzou at home at the half in teh first game.

Let me see if I've got the game right:

Mizzou is shooting hot from 3 because they can penetrate and kick to the open man camped out behind the line.

KU comes down the floor. Passes the ball around the arc, tries to get it to Simien, but they double him. KU takes a contested 3, misses, and all is repeated.

Simien has got to be more of a factor. J-Hawk can not be our leading scorer, I'm sorry.

Multiply that by 4... a six or seven seed is 24th-28th in the nation.... that's completely insane. We would still be #2 in the conference, still have beaten OSU, GTech, and Kentucky.... two of them WITHOUT WAYNE SIMIEN! So losing Langford knocks us out of the top 25?

If Langford is done the selection committee will take this into account & drop us unless KU proves it can beat an OU, OSU, or TX w/o him.

I don't think KU will be able to thus the drop to a 6 or 7 seed.

Losing 20-25 today is a HUGE stretch. KU losing on Friday night depends on who they're playing, but whatever. Dropping to a 6 or 7 seed? Do you watch basketball?

The selection committee takes injuries and other things into account. TX is on the bubble even though they only have 9 L's and a 9-7 conf. record b/c they are average w/o Tucker & the guy who is injured.

If KU loses today (likely) & Fri (possible) the committee must gauge where this team is among the 34 at large teams w/o Langford, that's why KU will drop IMO.

This wasn't the case 2 years ago b/c the selection committee saw KU play 2 months w/o Simien so they knew KU was still deserving of a high seed (even if the committee forgot who won KU-Tex).

Eleazar
03-06-2005, 02:15 PM
You seriously have no clue when it comes to college basketball do you? KU will be no lower than a 3 seed no matter what happens from now till March 17th

Well, let's say they lose today, Langford is out for the season, and they lose on Friday in the tourney. Then I think they could end up a 4 with unfriendly outcomes in the other conferences.

But, your point is well taken, it's not at all likely they cold be any lower than a 3.

If that were to happen though, you have them looking at a 3-4-5-6 in the second round and 2 in the third. So the secound round game could be a team like Arizona/Gonzaga/Uconn/Mich St. and then a Duke/Boston/Washington type team in the sweet 16

And injuries are figured in, but not as much as you are intimating.

If there's some example of this actually happening, I'd love to hear it, but that's a huge drop. You are right about Texas, but before beating OSU, they were 5-5 without Tucker. They wouldn't punish Kansas that much for losing a guy in the last regular season game of the year.

IMO, injuries should make no difference in seedings. Your team should be seeded based on what you did ALL season. Unfortunately there is a little bit of BCS in there where "what have you done lately" is more important than early big wins.

Why? They are supposed to be seeding teams for the most competitive tournament. Seeding a team based on a player that isn't going to play makes no sense. I mean, they could put Mizzou in the tournament based on Arthur Johnson, Kareem Rush, Rickey Paulding, Keyon Dooling, etc., but they aren't going to be playing so it makes no difference who we were with them.

It's like using an injury as an excuse. You should be seeded based on what your TEAM has done over a full season. KU won a lot of games, no matter who was in the lineup. Those wins are discounted if the team's seed is dropped significantly because one of your starters is lost.

Then why ask people who did go to MU why they root for their team?

It just seemed like a strange question to me.

For instance, I'm killing time here waiting for MY game to start in 45 minutes (CMSU vs Mo. Southern). I'm not a MU fan, even though I grew up just outside of Columbia. Might have been back in HS, but when I chose to go to CMSU, that's where my loyalties lie these days in sports.

I might root for an occasional team (like when SMS made the NCAAs several years ago, or when SLU did the same), but I'm not a fan of theirs, per se.
